The structures, knwn as Autnmus Reef Mnitring Structures, are piles f plastic plates that cpy the structure f a cral reef (珊瑚礁), prviding hmes fr varius sea creatures. The units have been fixed t the seaflr at seven sites. The lcatins were chsen as they represent different habitat quality, said marine bilgist Huang Danwei frm Natinal University f Singapre, wh is the lead researcher f the study. Fr example, the cral reef habitats at Raffles Lighthuse and Sisters’ Islands Marine Park are sme f the mst diverse in the cuntry, while Pulau Semakau has cral reefs that are cmparatively mre degraded.
Of the 42 units that were placed, half will be left underwater fr a year, while the rest will remain there fr tw years. After each f these time perids, researchers will bring back the structures and take the plates apart in the labratry t examine the life living in the structures during different perids.
Researchers want t learn mre abut the cral’s “cryptbime” — referring t the cryptic (隐秘的) life living inside a cral reef that tends t escape attentin — as part f the secnd Cmprehensive Marine Bidiversity Survey annunced by the Natinal Parks Bard recently. An aim f the secnd survey is t establish a bidiversity baseline f lcal key marine areas that may be impacted by future develpment, such as land reclamatin (土地开垦). Establishing a bidiversity baseline refers t the creatin f a “checklist” f different types f marine rganisms and their large quantity within a specific area.
Singapre has lst ver 60% f its cral reefs ver the decades due t develpmental wrk, and the study will als help t understand hw the develpment ver the past 50 years has affected the marine envirnment in Singapre.

40.根据下文“On the ther hand(另一方面)”可知,空处与前文的内容联系密切。上文“The peple yu spend time with can greatly influence yur mindset and chices. Chse friends wh uplift, supprt, and inspire yu.(和你在一起的人会极大地影响你的心态和选择。选择那些鼓舞你、支持你、激励你的朋友。)”提到了人际关系,所以接下来要继续讲述良好人际关系的好处。G项“积极的人际关系可以提升你的自信心,并帮助你应对挑战”符合语境。故选G项。
