The claim that 93% f cmmunicatin is nnverbal is a cmmn miscnceptin This statistic actually cmes frm a misinterpretatin f Albert Mehrabian’s research in 1967. His studies fcused n hw peple interpret cnflicting signals, such as when wrds, tne, and facial expressins dn’t match. He fund that in such cases, peple tend t rely mre n tne (38%) and facial expressins (55%) than n the actual wrds (7%). Hwever, this applies nly t cmmunicatin abut feelings and attitudes, nt t all frms f cmmunicatin.
Mehrabian never intended fr these percentages t be applied bradly. He has repeatedly clarified that wrds matter significantly in mst cntexts. The versimplificatin f his research has led t the widespread miscnceptin that nnverbal cues dminate all cmmunicatin. This miscnceptin can be misleading because it devalues the imprtance f wrds and versimplifies the cmplexity f human interactin.
Fcusing t much n bdy language while neglecting the pwer f wrds can be prblematic. Fr example, in written cmmunicatin r phne calls, where nnverbal cues are absent, wrds are the primary means f cnveying meaning.
Nnverbal cues are pwerful, but their imprtance depends n the situatin. A raised eyebrw can mean skepticism, r cnfusin depending n the cntext. Language and bdy language wrk tgether. When they are in harmny, the message becmes clearer and mre cmpelling. Cnversely, when there is a mismatch between what is said and hw it is expressed, puzzlement can arise
Authenticity (真实性) is crucial in cmmunicatin. Peple can sense when bdy language feels frced r inauthentic. Genuine engagement helps peple react t each ther well and makes cmmunicatin effective. It is als imprtant nt t verinterpret nnverbal signals. Fr example, crssed arms might indicate discmfrt, but they culd just as easily mean the persn is cld.
In cnclusin, while nnverbal cmmunicatin is undeniably imprtant, it’s nt abut memrizing percentages r rigid rules. It’s abut develping awareness f yurself, thers, and the situatin. Whether nnverbal cues accunt fr 40%, 60%, r 90% f cmmunicatin, they deserve attentin. The real pwer lies in hw yu apply them t cnnect authentically with thers.
28. What can we knw abut the 93% nnverbal cmmunicatin claim?
A. It’s based n accurate statistics.
B. It’s widely cnsidered t be a mistake.
C. It crrectly reflects Mehrabian’s research.
D. It misinterprets Mehrabian’s research findings.
29. What will happen if there is a cnflict between language and bdy language?
A. The speakers will cnvey their ideas well.
B. The messages will be clearer than ever.
C. The cnfusin amng the speakers will arise
D. The listeners will understand each ther better.
30. Hw des authenticity functin in cmmunicatin?
A. It leads t gd interactin.B. It ver-interprets wrd signals.
C. It causes false cmmunicatin.D. It makes frced gestures effective.
31. Which f the fllwing may be the best title fr the text?
A. The misinterpretatin f statistics in research
B. The imprtance f nnverbal cues in cmmunicatin
C. Trying t understand different rules f cmmunicatin
D. Breaking dwn nnverbal cmmunicatin miscnceptins
D 29. C 30. A 31. D

根据第四段“Cnversely, when there is a mismatch between what is said and hw it is expressed, puzzlement can arise.
根据第五段“Authenticity (真实性) is crucial in cmmunicatin. Peple can sense when bdy language feels frced r inauthentic. Genuine engagement helps peple react t each ther well and makes cmmunicatin effective.
根据最后一段“In cnclusin, while nnverbal cmmunicatin is undeniably imprtant, it’s nt abut memrizing percentages r rigid rules. It’s abut develping awareness f yurself, thers, and the situatin.

Hneybees can detect the unnticeable smells f lung cancer in the lab — even the faint smell f disease flating frm a patient’s breath. Inspired by the insects’ sharp sense f smell abilities, scientists cnnected bees t electrdes, passed different smells under the insects’ antennae (触角) and recrded their brain signals.
“Different smells sparked recgnizable brain activity patterns. One day, dctrs might be able t use hneybees in cancer clinics as sensrs fr early disease detectin,” said Saha, a neural engineer at Michigan State University in East Lansing.
Hneybees were held in place with 3D-printed plastic harnesses while the researchers perfrmed bee brain surgery, attaching wires t the regin that prcesses smells. A device delivered streams f air t the insects’ antennae. Each stream culd cntain mixing smells, such as thse breathed ut by healthy peple. Anther mixture cpied lung cancer patients’ breaths, undetectable t human nses. Using electrical signals read frm the bees’ brains, researchers culd distinguish between the tw types f breath.
In a separate experiment, Saha’s team cllected air remaining abve lung cells grwn in the lab. The bees culd successfully tell the difference between the air samples taken near healthy cells and thse gathered near cells f tw cancer types: small-cell lung cancer and nn- small-cell lung cancer.
Onging wrk in Saha’s lab has als revealed that bees’ smelling ability extends t ther trace smells, like thse emitted by perfluralkyl and plyfluralkyl substances, cmmnly knwn as PFAS, r frever chemicals. “That actually blew my mind,” Saha says. “PFAS in the envirnment are very hard t detect.”
Saha’s team hpes t use the bee smell sensr t test the breath f cancer patients. “The device’s biggest flaw is that it lasts just a few hurs befre the bees’ respnse becmes unstable,” he says. “But it wrks fast and spits ut results in real-time. With just ne bee, my team culd theretically buzz thrugh mre than 100 samples.”
32. What were the bees expsed t in the experiments?
A. Printed plastics.B. Surgical tls.
C. Lung cancer cells.D. Different breath r air samples.
33. What aspects f the research are discussed in paragraph 3?
A. Its findings.B. Its methds.
C. Its applicatins.D. Its influences.
34. Which wrd can best describe the bees’ smell?
A. Sensitive.B. Limited.
C. Ordinary.D. Unreliable.
35. What des the underlined wrd “flaw” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Feature.B. Weakness.
C. Benefit.D. Cntributin.
D 33. B 34. A 35. B
根据文章第三段“A device delivered streams f air t the insects’ antennae. Each stream culd cntain mixing smells, such as thse breathed ut by healthy peple. 以及第四段“In a separate experiment, Saha’s team cllected air remaining abve lung cells grwn in the lab. The bees culd successfully tell the difference between the air samples taken near healthy cells and thse gathered near cells f tw cancer types: small-cell lung cancer and nn- small-cell lung cancer.(在另一项单独的实验中,萨哈的团队收集了在实验室中培养的肺细胞上方残留的空气。

根据文章第三段“Hneybees were held in place with 3D-printed plastic harnesses while the researchers perfrmed bee brain surgery, attaching wires t the regin that prcesses smells. A device delivered streams f air t the insects’ antennae. Each stream culd cntain mixing smells, such as thse breathed ut by healthy peple. Anther mixture cpied lung cancer patients’ breaths, undetectable t human nses. Using electrical signals read frm the bees’ brains, researchers culd distinguish between the tw types f breath.(当研究人员对蜜蜂进行脑部手术时,他们用3D打印的塑料装置固定住蜜蜂,将电线连接到蜜蜂处理气味的大脑区域。
文章开篇指出“Hneybees can detect the unnticeable smells f lung cancer in the lab—even the faint smell f disease flating frm a patient’s breath.(在实验室里,蜜蜂能够探测到肺癌那难以察觉的气味——甚至是从患者呼吸中飘散出的极其微弱的患病气息。)”,即蜜蜂能够探测到实验室里肺癌难以察觉的气味,甚至是患者呼吸中飘散出的微弱的患病气息;第三段提到蜜蜂能区分健康人和肺癌患者的呼吸气味;第四段表明蜜蜂能够成功区分从健康细胞附近和两种癌症类型(小细胞肺癌和非小细胞肺癌)的细胞附近采集的空气样本;第五段还提到 “Onging wrk in Saha’s lab has als revealed that bees’ smelling ability extends t ther trace smells, like thse emitted by perfluralkyl and plyfluralkyl substances, cmmnly knwn as PFAS, r frever chemicals. ‘That actually blew my mind,’ Saha says. ‘PFAS in the envirnment are very hard t detect.’(Saha实验室正在进行的研究还表明,蜜蜂的嗅觉能力还能探测到其他微量气味,比如全氟烷基和多氟烷基物质(通常被称为PFAS,即“永久性化学物质”)所散发的气味。 故选A。
根据划线单词所在语境“The device’s biggest flaw is that it lasts just a few hurs befre the bees’ respnse becmes unstable,” he says. “But it wrks fast and spits ut results in real-time. With just ne bee, my team culd theretically buzz thrugh mre than 100 samples.”(“这种装置最大的……
