I then mved n t making little cups and saucers frm silver fil (箔纸) fr the magic creatures that I thught lived at the bttm f the garden. When my mther saw my wrk, she tld me that the smaller I made things, the bigger my name wuld becme.
As the years went by, my designs became mre cmplicated. And I used many different materials, such as diamnd fragments, eyelashes and even spider web threads.
I smetimes wrk fr 16 hurs a day withut breaks, and it takes me up t three mnths t finish a sculpture. I have t hld my breath during the sculpting prcess. It isn’t actually an easy prcess — but I can enjy it nce I've finished it.
My sculptures have taken me t incredible places. In 2012, I met the queen and gave her a tiny crwn n the head f a pin. In 2013, I received my first Guinness Wrld Recrd fr creating the smallest sculpture made by hand. It was a 24-carat gld mtrbike that fitted inside a drilled ut hair. In 2017, I beat my recrd with a sculpture f a human fetus (胎) that measured 0.078mm by 0.053mm.
One time, a fly landed n a Cinderella carriage sculpture I was wrking n. The fly’s wings blew it away, and it was lst, I was heart-brken. Anther time, I accidentally breathed in a micrscpic Alice frm Alice in Wnderland. Alice is nw in Wnderland frever. But it did give me the chance t make an even better ne the secnd time arund.
The micrscpic wrld has always been my happy place. I've tried t make bigger sculptures, but small is best fr me. We need t appreciate the little things in life. Small things can als be mighty, t.

Mst f us in the entrepreneurial (企业家的) cmmunity are blessed—r cursed—with higher-than-average ambitin. Ambitius peple strngly desire accmplishments and are willing t take mre risks and spend mre effrt t get them.
Overall, this is a psitive quality, especially fr peple trying t build their wn businesses. Apparently, if yu're mre naturally driven t set gals, yu are mre likely t succeed.
Actually, this isn’t always the case. In fact, in sme cases, extreme ambitin may end up ding mre harm than gd.
One majr side effect f excessive ambitin is the tendency t fcus t determinedly n ne particular visin r end gal. This is prblematic because it affects yur ability t adapt t new circumstances, which is vital if yu want t be a successful entrepreneur. If a new cmpetitr emerges t threaten yur business, yu may need t change directin, even if that means nt sticking t yur riginal visin. If yu have t much ambitin, yu’ll find this hard, if nt impssible.
Few peple are successful when they try t build their first brand. Unfrtunately, fr the mst ambitius entrepreneurs, a failure is seen as disastrus, and impssible t recver frm. It’s a clear departure frm the intended plan tward the intended gal. Fr peple with limited ambitin, hwever, failure is viewed as smething clser t reality. Remember, failure is inevitable, and every failure yu survive is a learning experience.
Ambitius peple tend t be mre materialistically successful than their nn-ambitius cunterparts. Hwever, they're nly slightly happier than their less-ambitius cunterparts and tend t live significantly shrter lives. This implies that even thugh ambitius peple are mre likely t achieve cnventinal “success,” such success means nthing fr their health and happiness—and if yu dn't have health and happiness, what else culd pssibly matter?
Clearly, sme amunt f ambitin is gd fr yur mtivatin. Withut any ambitin, yu wuldn’t start yur wn business, set r achieve gals, and get far in life, But an excess f ambitin can als be dangerus, putting yu at risk f burnut, stubbrnness, and even a shrter life.
      28. What des the authr think f mst entrepreneurs?
      A. They culd wrk smarter but nt harder,
      B. They are mre willing t risk their wn lives.
      C. They are mre ambitius than rdinary peple.
      D. They pssess mre psitive qualities than mst f us.
      29. What des the underlined wrd “excessive” in Para. 4 prbably mean?
      A. Nrmal.B. Overdne. C. Balanced. D. Insufficient
      30. Accrding t the authr, which is imprtant t becme a successful entrepreneur?
      A. Hlding n t ne’s riginal visin.
      B. Fcusing determinedly n a particular gal.
      C. Aviding radical change in ne’s career directin.
      D. Being flexible and respnsive t changing envirnments.
      31. What des the authr advise us t d cncerning ambitin?
      A. Priritize health and happiness ver material success.
      B. Avid taking unnecessary risks when starting a business.
      C. Fllw the example f the mst ambitius entrepreneurs.
      D. Distinguish between cnventinal success and ur life gal.
      D
Chclates save us frm many things, especially emtinal distress. They cmfrt us in times f truble, calming dwn a racing heart by channelling happy calries inside us. We all have faith in chclates t delight us in an instant!

If yu are nt aware as t why scientists made the statement abut the death f this wnderful thing, let us tell yu the facts. Chclate trees, whse seeds are used t make chclate, grw in the trpical plant wrld and require very specific weather cnditins t prsper.
Nw, fifty percent f the wrld's cca beans cme frm tw cuntries in West Africa. Côte d'lvire and Ghana. Scientists believe that bth f these cuntries will experience a 3.8°C temperature increase by 2050 due t glbal warming, endangering the caca farms in the rainfrests. These farms will then have t be shifted t cler muntainus areas, which are the natural habitat f wildlife. This will lead t sme tugh decisins: whether t grw chclate r save wildlife
Unfrtunately, the crisis f glbal warming has already had a serius negative impact n caca farms’ harvest, leading t the prices f chclates skyrcketing.
Scientists, hwever, are trying t find a lng-term and ec-friendly slutin t this prblem! They are mdifying the species with gene-editing technlgy, transfrming the seedlings int a species that survives even in drier and warmer climates. 江苏省海安高级中学 景苏华QQ:771515126
Accrding t a reprt by The Business Insider, in the University f Califrnia’s new bi-sciences building, tiny green caca seedlings are lined up in refrigerated greenhuses fr a new experiment using CRISPR technlgy, By cntrlling plant DNA, this technlgy is already being used wrldwide t make plants tugher and cheaper, In this experiment, scientists will make precise changes t the seedlings’ DNA t help cca crps survive in warmer and drier climates.
      32. What was scientists’ recent statement abut chclates?
      A. They culd becme a rare treat in the near future.
      B. They culd calm peple dwn a bit in times f crisis.
      C. They culd prevent peple frm getting heartbrken.
      D. They culd becme unavailable in less than 30 years.
      33. What wuld happen if the caca farms were shifted t cler muntainus areas?
      A. The rainfrests wuld shrink dramatically.
      B. The quality f cca beans wuld suffer greatly.
      C. The natural habitat f wildlife there wuld be ruined
      D. The caca farmers wuld have a tugh time adapting
      34. What d we learn abut the caca farms in the crisis f glbal warming?
      A. They try t seek help frm gene-editing scientists.
      B. They decide t mve t cler muntainus areas.
      C. They have suffered a lt due t a decrease in prduce.
      D. They have benefited by raising prices f cca beans.
      35. What is the last paragraph mainly abut?
      A. A CRISPR experiment t enhance cca crps’ climate tlerance.
      B. The histry f CRISPR technlgy and its rle in glbal agriculture.
      C. The impact f climate change n traditinal cca farming methds.
      D. Hw refrigerated greenhuses are used t stre caca seedlings wrldwide.
      第二节 (共5小题: 每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
      阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
We’ve all encuntered a “knw-it-all”—smene wh eagerly lectures n any tpic, regardless f expertise, ften frustrating thse wh actually knw better. 36
One explanatin is “naive realism,” the idea that peple naturally believe their view f the wrld reflects bjective truth. In reality, all perceptins are shaped by persnal biases(偏见),memries, and emtins, creating a unique perspective fr each individual. Yet many fail t recgnize this, assuming that anyne wh sees things differently is simply wrng. 37 Anther ptential cgnitive bias at wrk is the “illusin(错觉) f infrmatin adequacy” 38 . Fr instance, smene wh sees a classmate aviding sprts might assume they’re just lazy, withut cnsidering ther reasns, such as an injury. This illusin leads sme t believe they knw mre than they actually d.
39 Expressing pinins can be a way f establishing superirity and a sense f dminance in scial settings. There’s als the Dunning-Kruger effect, which is cgnitive bias. 40 Their lack f insight prevents them frm recgnizing when thers have mre knwledge than they d. As a result, they may cnfidently argue their pints, even against experts. Ultimately, a knw-it-all’s behavir may cme frm a cmbinatin f biases and scial needs. Irnically, t becme a knw-it-all, ne must truly knw t little.
      A. This tendency t vice pinins can create tensin.
      B. Fr sme, this belief becmes an urge t “crrect” thers.
      C. These individuals ften feel a respnsibility t educate thers.
      D. Sme peple might als be driven by a need fr status r cntrl.
      E. Peple ften feel cnfident in their judgments, even withut enugh evidence.
      F. Peple with limited knwledge in an area tend t verestimate their knwledge.
      G. But why d sme peple assume they knw mre abut every subject than anyne?
