Step 1 Review and Lead - in (5 minutes)
Use PPT t shw sme pictures f plants and animals. Randmly select students t describe the characteristics r relatinships f these plants and animals using the learned vcabulary and sentence patterns, reviewing the knwledge learned befre.
The teacher asks questins: "What have we learned abut plants and animals? Hw d they interact with each ther?" Guide students t review the key knwledge f this unit and prepare fr the new lessn.
Step 2 Reading Training (12 minutes)
Skimming the article: Shw the reading material in 3a. Let students quickly skim the article and answer the questin "What is the main idea f the passage abut the blue whale?" t cultivate their ability t btain the main idea f the article.
Intensive reading: Read the article again. Let students read intensively with the questins "What are the unique features f the blue whale? Hw des it affect the ecsystem?" Ask students t find the key infrmatin in the article and mark it. After reading, rganize students t have a grup discussin and share the infrmatin they fund. The teacher walks arund each grup and gives necessary guidance and help.
Learning language knwledge: Cmbine the reading article t explain the key vcabulary and phrases in the article, such as "weigh", "tiny", "play an imprtant rle in", etc. Help students understand their usage thrugh example sentences. At the same time, guide students t pay attentin t the superlative frm f adjectives and ther descriptive languages used in the article and analyze their expressive effects.
Step 3 Oral Expressin (10 minutes)
Grup discussin: Divide students int grups. Let them discuss the questins "What ther animals play imprtant rles in the ecsystem? Hw can we prtect these animals?" based n the article cntent and their wn knwledge. Encurage students t actively participate in the discussin and share their pinins and knwledge.
Grup reprt: Each grup selects a representative t reprt the grup's discussin results t the whle class. Other grup students listen carefully and can ask questins and make supplements. The teacher summarizes and evaluates the reprts f each grup, guiding students t further think abut the imprtance f eclgical prtectin.
