Even nw sme peple get mst f their news frm televisin r radi. Many buy a paper nly n Saturday r Sunday. But fr mst peple reading a newspaper has becme a habit passed dwn frm generatin t generatin.
The nature f what is news may change. What basically makes news is what affects ur lives — the big plitical stries, the cverage f the wars, earthquakes and ther disasters, will cntinue much the same. I think there will be mre cverage f scientific research, thugh. It’s already happening in areas that may directly affect ur lives, like genetic(基因) engineering. In the future, I think there will be mre cverage f scientific explanatins f why we feel as we d — as we develp a better understanding f hw the brain perates and what ur feelings really are.
It’s quite pssible that in the next century newspapers will be transmitted(传送) electrnically frm Fleet Street and printed ut in ur wn hme. In fact, I’m pretty sure that hw it will happen in the future. Yu will prbably be able t chse frm a menu, making up yur wn newspaper by picking ut the things yu want t read — sprts and internatinal news, etc.
I think peple have gt it wrng when they talk abut cmpetitin between the different media(媒体). They actually feed ff each ther. Sme peple nce fresaw that televisin wuld kill ff newspapers, but that hasn’t happened. What is read n the printed page lasts lnger than pictures n a screen r sund lst in the air. And as fr the Internet, it’s never really pleasant t read smething just n a screen.

A child wh has nce been pleased with a tale likes, as a rule, t have it retld in almst the same wrds, but this shuld nt lead parents t treat printed fairy stries as frmal texts. It is always much better t tell a stry than read it ut f a bk, and, if a parent can prduce what, in the actual situatin f the time and the child, is an imprvement n the printed text, s much the better.
A charge made against fairy tales is that they harm the child by frightening him r making him sad thinking. T prve the latter, ne wuld have t shw in a cntrlled experiment that children wh have read fairy stries were mre ften srry fr cruelty than thse wh had nt. As t fears, there are, I think, sme cases f children being dangerusly terrified by sme fairy stry. Often, hwever, this arises(出现) frm the child having heard the stry nce. Familiarity with the stry by repetitin turns the pain f fear int the pleasure f a fear faced and mastered.
There are als peple wh bject t fairy stries n the grunds that they are nt bjectively true, that giants, witches, tw-headed dragns, magic carpets, etc. d nt exist; and that, instead f being fnd f the strange side in fairy tales, the child shuld be taught t learn the reality by studying histry. I find such peple, I must say s peculiar(奇怪的) that I d nt knw hw t argue with them. If their case were sund, the wrld shuld be full f mad men attempting t fly frm New Yrk t Philadelphia n a stick r cvering a telephne with kisses in the belief that it was their belved girl-friend.
N fairy stry ever declared t be a descriptin f the real wrld and n clever child has ever believed that it was.
      31. The authr cnsiders that a fairy stry is mre effective when it is _______.
      A. repeated withut any changeB. treated as a jke
      C. made sme changes by the parentD. set in the present
      32. Accrding t the passage, great fear can take place in a child when the stry is _______.
      A. in a realistic settingB. heard fr the first time

      D. there is mre cncern fr children's fears nwadays
      35. One f the reasns why sme peple are nt in favr f fairy tales is that _______.
      A. they are full f imaginatin
      B. they just make up the stries which are far frm the truth

      D. they make teachers f histry difficult t teach
      C
There are tw types f peple in the wrld. Althugh they have equal degree f health and wealth and ther cmfrts f life, ne becmes happy and the ther becmes unhappy. This arises frm the different ways in which they cnsider things, persns, events and the resulting effects upn their minds.
Peple wh are t be happy fix their attentin n the cnvenience f things: the pleasant parts f cnversatin, the well prepared dishes, the gdness f the wine and the fine weather. They enjy all the cheerful things. Thse wh are t be unhappy think and speak nly f the ppsite things. Therefre, they are cntinually dissatisfied. By their remarks, they sur the pleasure f sciety, ffend(hurt) many peple, and make themselves disagreeable everywhere. If this turn f mind was funded in nature, such unhappy persns wuld be the mre t be pitied. The intentin f criticizing(批评) and being disliked is perhaps taken up by imitatin(模仿). It grws int a habit, unknwn t its pssessrs. The habit may be strng, but it may be cured when thse wh have it realize its bad effects n their interests and tastes. I hpe this little warning may be f service t them, and help them change this habit.
Althugh in fact it is chiefly an act f the imaginatin, it has serius results in life since it brings n deep srrw and bad luck. Thse peple ffend many thers; nbdy lves them, and n ne treats them with mre than the mst cmmn pliteness and respect. This frequently puts them in bad temper and draws them int arguments. If they aim at getting sme advantages in scial psitin r frtune, nbdy wishes them success. Nr will anyne start a step r speak a wrd t favr their hpes. If they bring n themselves public bjectins, n ne will defend r excuse them, and many will jin t criticize their wrngdings. These shuld change this bad habit and be pleased with what is pleasing, withut wrrying needlessly abut themselves and thers. If they d nt, it will be gd fr thers t avid any cntact(接触) with them. Otherwise, it can be disagreeable and smetimes very incnvenient, especially when ne becmes mixed up in their quarrels.
      31. Peple wh are unhappy _______.
      A. always cnsider things differently frm thers
      B. usually are affected by the results f certain things

Why have s many cmpanies started allwing their emplyees t wear casual clthes? One reasn is that it’s easier fr a cmpany t attract new emplyees if it has a casual dress cde. “A lt f yung peple dn’t want t dress up fr wrk,” says the wner f a sftware cmpany, “s it’s hard t hire peple if yu have a cnservative dress cde.” Anther reasn is that peple seem happier and mre prductive when they are wearing cmfrtable clthes.
