In Eurpe, peple hld the frk in the left hand and the knife in the right thrughut the meal, a system that is generally agreed t be mre efficient than the American zigzag(曲折的)methd. Americans hld bth the frk and the knife in their right hands thrughut the meal, s they cntinually change their frks t the left hand when they have t cut their meat.
26.A。 根据第一自然段“Americans hld bth the frk and the knife in their right hands thrughut the meal”可知。

Yu must speak s that they can hear yu—ludly enugh and clearly enugh but withut trying t shut r appearing t frce yurself.
从文中的…where a large grup f peple will remain silent,可见B项为正确答案。
Yu must take special care that yu can be heard.

Ech was chsen t participate in a cmpetitin, and finally failed, althugh he gt fully prepared fr it. He asked the editr what he culd d t deal with it.
      Dear Ech,
Frm yur letter, I knw that yu put lts f effrt int the cmpetitin and tried yur best. Unfrtunately, yu didn’t win and have been bthered by the unexpected result.
On ne hand, I ttally sympathize with yur feelings. Everyne enters a cmpetitin with the hpe t win. Perhaps it is quite natural fr yu t feel this way after such a setback. But n the ther hand, I think yu shuldn’t place s much imprtance n winning. There is the saying that “it is nt winning, but the taking part that cunts”. Hpefully by appearing in this cmpetitin yu will nt nly have imprved yur English, but will als take a mre valuable lessn frm it. It’s impssible t win all the time and everyne must learn t take defeat gracefully(潇洒地). Besides, yu might have been wrrying t much. The fact that yu lst this cmpetitin wn’t diminish yur value as an intelligent and hard-wrking student in the eyes f yur teachers and classmates.
S cheer up! Yu will find that yur wrld is actually brighter than befre.
