Mst f us maintain an infrmal mental rank f ur friendships. My friend R. went a step further by ranking his friends n a cmputer dcument.
The yung man fund himself dissatisfied with his scial life — busy yet unfulfilled, and he built his friend list t diagnse why. He fund that he had a small grup f first-tier friends and a huge number f acquaintances. But the friends wh caused him the mst burden and stress were thse in the middle ranks. Call them the "medium friends".
      R. tld me abut a certain friend. They were clse during cllege but by their 30s, R. simply did nt feel as cnnected t her as he nce did. When this friend recently reached ut fr his supprt, his initial reactin was annyance, fllwed by guilt. But she was pressing him in a way that felt t heavy, given what their friendship had becme. He wrestled but did nthing. Emily Langan, a cmmunicatin prfessr wh studies friendship, described this as feeling guilty fr nt being mre invlved because they were just nt that kind f friend.
Medium friends are genuine friends wh share histry r interests. They make yu laugh r ffer insights. But, unlike the clsest friends, medium friends test the limits f yur time, lve and energy. There are s many dinners in a week, and s many peple with whm yu can be cnstantly texting. Medium friends prve it impssible t be all things t all peple. And that is the prblem with medium friends, the invisible lines yu draw arund them withut ever being clarified — t them r even, pssibly, t yurself.
Mutual sharing and caring in a cntext f trust is the fundatin f every friendship. The tensin in medium friendship is this absence f clarity, allwing fr the pssibility f what Claude Fischer, a scilgist, referred t in an interview as "asymmetric expectatin": Yu may like yur medium friend less (r mre) than they like yu.
8.Why des the authr mentin R.'s friend list?
A.T highlight the need t assess friendship. B.T remind us t keep a balance in friendship.
C.T give an example f categrizing friends. D.T shw us the pssible prblem with friendship.

C.He was annyed fr nt knwing hw t help. D.He felt guilty that she wasn't a clse friend.
10.What is the main prblem with medium friends?
A.They prvide limited lve. B.There is a lack f clear bundaries.
C.There are t many f them. D.They are less reliable than expected.
11.What des the underlined wrd "asymmetric" in the last paragraph mean?
      A.Unrealistic.B.Annying.C.Unequal.D.Invisible.
      D

Cnsequently, Jennifer and her spuse perceived n evident reasn t withhld an Instagram accunt frm their sn, wh was in the sixth grade, until Ryan psted an image f himself grasping an empty beer bttle that his father had just drained. "My husband bserved the phtgraph materialize n Ryan's prfile and prmptly ascended the stairs, insisting that he remve it withut delay," Jennifer narrates. Even if he was simply psing, that image was exceedingly inapprpriate."
With the burgening ppularity f the pht-sharing platfrm Instagram, it is nt uncmmn fr parents t cultivate a misplaced sense f security. Cupled with the age requirement f 13 and its privacy settings, it appears t be an almst inncuus site fr children. Hw much mischief culd they cnceivably cause? Hwever, this is nt the actuality.
Surprisingly, sme yungsters are resrting t paying fr attentin n scial media. When Paula Pryr detected an enigmatic charge f $700 n her credit card, the last thing she anticipated was that it was a payment t a cmpany that facilitated the acquisitin f "likes" fr Instagram phtgraphs. "My sn Hayden believed it was merely ten dllars, but it was ten dllars per ‘like'," Pryr elucidates.
Often, the cause fr cncern is nt ne's wn adlescent—it's smene else's child. Megan Kster was perplexed as t why her daughter Delaney suddenly became s apprehensive abut whether her panty line was discernible thrugh her jeans. Eventually, Delaney disclsed that she was wrried smene might capture a phtgraph and pst it n Instagram. "I dn't think I wuld have survived middle schl if websites like this had existed back then," Kster laments.
12.What made Jennifer think her sn Ryan culd have an Instagram accunt?
A.He gained ppularity in schl. B.He was skilled at using Instagram.
C.He shwed interest in taking phts. D.He was ld enugh and behaved well.
13.What des the underlined wrd "they" in paragraph 2 refer t?
      A.Instagram accunts.B.Scial media.
      C.Pictures.D.Children.
14.Why did Pryr's sn pay the cmpany $700?
A.T btain the picture he liked. B.T pay attentin t scial media.
C.T get his phts nticed and liked. D.T pay the charge n his credit card.
      15.What's the text mainly abut?
A.Teen's prblems with Instagram. B.Inapprpriate pictures frm children.
C.The influence f the Internet n yung users. D.Cncerns fr the Internet security fr children.
