The United Natins specialized agency n public health based the cnclusin n an examinatin by its Eurpean ffice f abut 8, 000 baby fd prducts n shelf between. Nvember 2019 and January 2020. It warns that the very high level f sugars present in cmmercial prducts is a cause fr cncern. They increase the risk f verweight and teeth hles while causing a lifetime eating habit in favr f sugary fds.
“In arund half f the prducts examined, mre than 30 percent f calries were frm ttal sugars and arund a third f prducts cntained added sugar r ther sweetening agents,” the wrld health bdy said in the reprt released n Mnday t update guidelines fr babies’ diets. The examinatin that cvered mre than 500 stres in Austria, Bulgaria, Israel and Hungary als finds the labels f up t 60 percent f the inspected fd are misleading cnsumers by claiming t suit babies under six mnths ld.
In the reprt, cuntries are advised t make new laws n cntrlling high sugar intake, ban added sugars and sweeteners in baby fds, and put an end t the prmtin f breast milk substitutes.
