On the blue cean surrunding Weizhu Island in Guangxi, a grup f vlunteers are preparing t dive int the water. They’re nt cllecting ysters r lking fr fish but fixing small baby cral t underwater frames n the cean flr. Cral expert Huang Wen and his team have spent years planting, mnitring and surveying cral reefs (珊瑚礁) arund the island, diving the waters mre than 500 times as part f effrts t restre its cral reefs.
As an assciate prfessr at the Schl f Marine Sciences at Guangxi University, Huang develped a strng passin fr cral reefs during his diving trips in Malaysia, where he discvered a lively underwater wrld that lked like a magical aquarium filled with clrful cral. Thse trips left a lasting impressin n him. “I remember my first dive underwater at Weizhu Island in 2015. I was s disappinted t find lw cral cverage,” recalled Huang, explaining why he jined the university’s team t make a change.
Huang said that nt nly are cral reefs vital fr the underwater ecsystem (生态系统), but they als act as a prtective barrier fr natural disasters such as strms and tsunamis. “Cral reefs are the ‘Great Wall’ f the seabed, capable f resisting 70% t 90% f wave impacts. Withut the prtectin f cral reefs, the sandy castal rcks are easily washed away,” explained Huang. Since the 1950s, glbal cral reef degradatin (退化) has becme increasingly severe, psing a significant threat t their survival and leading t the extinctin f marine life.
Under Huang’s guidance, the team has successfully grwn mre than 10 cral species and ver 50, 000 individual crals, marking great prgress in their restratin effrts. Their hard wrk has resulted in a survival rate f ver 80% fr cral in the nrthern restratin zne, supprting thriving cral cmmunities that attract diverse marine life. “I hpe mre peple will jin ur cause t prtect cral reefs,” Huang said, “In the future, ur team will cntinue t perfect ur technlgy and restre mre damaged cral reefs. Once ur experience n Weizhu Island matures, we plan t expand it t the Suth China Sea and even verseas.”

Getting rid f ld tyres (轮胎) has lng been a prblem. Mst are thrwn int landfills r piled up in strage. Energy recvery is anther cmmn methd. This invlves burning tyres t generate electricity r heat fr industries, but that prduces planet warming pllutin; r we use them t repair rads, but chemicals frm them might pllute the grund.
Sme firms, therefre, have begun explring an alternative. One such firm is Wastefrnt, which wns a big tyre-recycling plant in nrth-east England. In a cuple f years, it will be able t turn 8 millin ld tyres int new prducts, including a black liquid called TDO
The prcess wrks by decnstructing a tyre int steel, rubber, and carbn black. After tearing dwn the steel, the remaining material is expsed t high temperatures in the absence f air t make the rubber change int a mix f hydrcarbn gases, and then they’re remved. What is left behind is pure carbn black. Once the remved gases cl dwn, a part f them liquefies (液化) int TDO. The remaining gases are t be burned t fuel the prcess. This creates a clsed-cycle system that prevents emissins.
The carbn black can be reused t make new tyres. That is f interest t tyre-makers because it helps effrts t becme carbn neutral — achieving a balance between the amunts f carbn dixide prduced and the carbn dixide remved frm the atmsphere. Prducing new carbn black requires burning heavy il r cal, which lets ff plenty f greenhuse gases.
The recvered TDO is well-suited fr making diesel (柴油). While nt cmpletely carbn-neutral, it des prduce an 80-90% reductin in emissins f carbn dixide, cmpared with the cnventinal fuel. The future market fr such cleaner fuels will remain large, even thugh electric vehicles are n the rise. Fssil-fueled vehicles will exist fr decades, particularly the big burners f diesel — trucks, which are harder t electrify. The fuel is als needed by trains and ships. S, anything that helps clean up verall emissins is useful — especially if it als eases a muntainus waste prblem.
8. What’s the purpse f the first paragraph?
A. T analyze causes.B. T present prblems.
C. T reach slutins.D. T make cmparisns.
9. What can be inferred abut the tyre-recycling prcess?
A. Air bsts the burning f the ld tyres.
B. The remaining gases are emitted int the air.
C. Pure carbn black is an unprcessed substance.
D. TDO cmes frm the remved hydrcarbn gases.
10. Why are tyre-makers interested in tyre-recycling?
A. They hpe t gain financial rewards.B. It helps reduce greenhuse emissins.
C. It helps imprve prductin efficiency.D. They hpe t expand the future market.
11. What des the underlined wrd “it” in the last paragraph refer t?
A. Diesel made frm TDO.B. Clean electric energy.
C. Carbn-neutral prcess.D. Recvered TDO frm ld tyres.

She argues that Nrwegians aren’t mre envirnmentally minded than peple elsewhere; strng plicies and grwing public awareness have made electric vehicles a practical chice. “It’s ur gal t see that it’s always a gd and practical chice t chse zer emissin,” she says, “We are clsing up n that gal, and I think that we will reach that gal.”
12. What is paragraph 2 mainly abut?

C. By setting a limit n the purchase f ICE cars.D. By making plicies t guide cnsumers’ chices.
14. What can we learn frm Christina Bu’s wrds?
A. Nrway is n track t meet its zer-emissin target.
B. Nrway’s EV success results frm public awareness.
C. Other cuntries can directly adpt Nrway’s EV plicies.
D. Nrwegians have a deep-rted envirnment-based mindset.
15. Which can be the best title fr the text?
A. The Rising Trend f Car MarketsB. EVs Fuel Nrway’s Ecnmic Bm

B 9. D 10. B 11. A
根据文章第一段“Getting rid f ld tyres has lng been a prblem. Mst are thrwn int landfills r piled up in strage. Energy recvery is anther cmmn methd. This invlves burning tyres t generate electricity r heat fr industries, but that prduces planet warming pllutin; r we use them t repair rads, but chemicals frm them might pllute the grund.(处理废旧轮胎长期以来一直是个问题。大多数轮胎被丢弃在垃圾填埋场或者堆积在仓库里。能源回收是另一种常用方法,这涉及燃烧轮胎以产生电力或工业热能,但这会产生加剧全球变暖的污染;或者我们将它们用于修复道路,但这可能导致有害化学物质渗入土壤造成污染)”可知,文章在第一段提出了旧轮胎的处理一直以来都是一个难题这个事实,故第一段的主要目的是为了提出问题。故选B项。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第三段“The prcess wrks by decnstructing a tyre int steel, rubber, and carbn black. After tearing dwn the steel, the remaining material is expsed t high temperatures in the absence f air t make the rubber change int a mix f hydrcarbn gases, and then they’re remved. What is left behind is pure carbn black. Once the remved gases cl dwn, a part f them liquefies int TDO.(这一过程通过分解轮胎成钢、橡胶和碳黑来实现。首先去除轮胎中的钢材后,剩余的材料在无氧环境中经受高温处理,使橡胶转变成混合烃类气体,随后这些气体被分离出去。剩下的就是纯净的碳黑。当分离出的气体冷却后,其中一部分会液化成为TDO)”可知,被除去的混合烃类气体一旦冷却下来之后它们中的一部分就会液化成了TDO,所以TDO来自被去除的烃类气体。故选D项。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第四段“The carbn black can be reused t make new tyres. That is f interest t tyre-makers because it helps effrts t becme carbn neutral — achieving a balance between the amunts f carbn dixide prduced and the carbn dixide remved frm the atmsphere. Prducing new carbn black requires burning heavy il r cal, which lets ff plenty f greenhuse gases.(回收得到的碳黑可以用来制造新轮胎。这对轮胎制造商来说很有吸引力,因为它有助于实现碳中和——即达到二氧化碳排放量和从大气中移除的二氧化碳量之间的平衡。生产新的碳黑需要燃烧重油或煤炭,这会释放大量温室气体)”可知,轮胎制造商对轮胎回收感兴趣,因为它有助于减少温室气体排放。故选B项。
【11题详解】
词句猜测题。根据文章最后一段划线词之前“The recvered TDO is well-suited fr making diesel. While nt cmpletely carbn-neutral,(回收的TDO非常适合用于制造柴油。虽然不是完全碳中和)”以及划线词之后“des prduce an 80-90% reductin in emissins f carbn dixide, cmpared with the cnventinal fuel.(但与传统燃料相比,它确实能减少80-90%的二氧化碳排放)”可知,此处是说TDO制造的柴油与传统的燃料相比较是有优势的,故推测划线词it指代的是由回收的TDO制造的柴油。故选A项。
