Betty Reid Sskin retired (退休) at the age f 100 as the ldest active Natinal Park Service(NPS) ranger (护
林员). She spent her last day n the jb at the WWII Hme Frnt Natinal Histrical Park in Richmnd, Califrnia.

After leaving the Air Frce, Sskin wrked as a file clerk at Bilermaker’s A-36, an all-Black unin hall in the
San Francisc Bay Area. A talented musician, she and her husband, Mel Reid, funded ne f the first
Black-wned music stres in the regin in 1945. Sskin als spent decades wrking as a staff member fr fficials
in Berkley City Cuncil and the Califrnia State Assembly.
The newly retired ranger has been invlved with the Richmnd natinal park since its establishment in2000. In
these early planning years, Sskin was ften the nly persn f clr in the meeting rm.
At 84, Sskin first jined the NPS in a shrt-term rle, wrking t share the understudied stries f Black
