【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第二段“Abut 15 years ag, Odlin heard a talk frm Klaus Lackner — the physicist wh ppularized the idea f remving carbn frm the atmsphere. Kils are nt the nly thing that intermittent fasting (间歇性禁食) will help yu lse A new study shws that the wildly ppular weight-lss methd culd als inhibit hair grwth.
Intermittent fasting is a time-restricted diet, where the day’s calrie intake is cnsumed ver an 8-12 hur perid, with fasting fr the remaining hurs. Research tracking participants n such diets fr three mnths t a year has shwn benefits like weight lss, imprved heart health, and better cntrl f bld sugar. These reprted benefits have made intermittent fasting a glbal trend.
Hwever, nt all utcmes f intermittent fasting are psitive. A study published n December 13 in Cell is amng the first t link intermittent fasting with hair lss. The study fund that intermittent fasting culd blck hair fllicle (毛囊) regrwth by causing prgrammed cell death in active hair fllicle stem cells (HFSCs). Mice subjected t intermittent fasting shwed slwer hair regrwth cmpared t thse with regular fd access. Thugh similar results were fund in humans in a small clinical trial, the researchers warned that the effects might be less serius in humans due t their slwer bdy prcesses and different hair grwth patterns.
The researchers discvered that intermittent fasting slws hair grwth because hair fllicle stem cells (HFSCs) struggle t handle xidative stress (氧化应激) when the bdy switches frm burning sugar t fat fr energy. Nrmally, HFSCs switches between activity and rest, and hair regrwth depends n these cells becming active. In the study, mice with regular fd access had active HFSCs after being shaved, and their hair regrew nrmally. Hwever, the fasting mice experienced prgrammed cell death in their active HFSCs, preventing hair regrwth.
Althugh these findings are significant, they are based n initial studies. Larger trials are needed t better understand hw intermittent fasting affects hair grwth, as individual respnses may vary.
12. What des the underlined wrd “inhibit” mean?
A. Prevent.B. Maintain.C. Cntrl.D. Prmte.
