T be hnest, I didn’t want t g t the Jah Ecturism Camp in Cambdia with my parents. I hated ht, wet weather, and I was nt interested in nature. Yet in May 2023, I had t bard the plane with them t the camp.

Nw, an immersive VR (沉浸式虚拟现实的) experience develped by the University f Suth Australia (UniSA) is educating children abut bushfires and helping them learn hw t be safer when a bushfire happens.
Fcusing n children aged 10-12 years, the new VR experience presents a scenari (场景) where children are tasked t lk after a friend’s dg just befre a fire begins. They take part in a series f prblem-slving activities t help save and prtect themselves and the dg.
Published in the Jurnal f Educatinal Cmputing Research, the research prved hw immersive VR experience can bring significant psitive learning results fr primary children. The findings shwed that after the VR experience, mre than 80 per cent f children agreed r strngly agreed that they felt mre cnfident t calmly cnsider the ptins and make wise decisins t prtect themselves frm a a bushfire.
This was especially significant cnsidering that 91 per cent f children previusly lacked any knwledge f fires, and that 67 per cent had said they were t yung t make safety decisins in a fire.
The prject is part f Safa Mlan’s PhD prject.
