In the hallway by the dr, shpping bags filled with her latest creatins await their new hme. An ld, self-knitted patchwrk (拼布) blanket is thrwn casually ver the sfa where she spends her days. Initially, the scarves were gifts fr friends. As the stck grew, they were dnated t children’s shelters acrss Greece. Then they reached children in Bsnia and Ukraine. The latest batch f 70 scarves went t a refugee camp near Athens this winter, via the U. N. refugee agency, UNHCR.
“The fact that we give scarves away gives her strength,” said her daughter Angeliki. She recunted drawings and mails her mther has received ver the years: “Thank yu… Be well… Keep ging… Yu gave jy t children… Yu gave jy t peple… That’s her nly reward — a letter, a few wrds.”

Every mrning I’m almst guaranteed t wake up and read sme climate news that screams disaster — a terrifying wildfire, a devastating fld r yet anther reprt that says we’re past a tipping pint. The rund-the-clck disastrus envirnmental news weighs me dwn cnstantly.
If yu’ve nticed the same, yu are nt alne. But all that cnstant stream f depressing news abut the envirnment can get in the way f taking actin. That’s because thse headlines can lead us t believe that there is little an individual can d abut climate change, when in fact that’s nt the case. But staying mtivated t make individual changes is hard when yu’re feeling lw.
That’s why ne f my clleagues and I have cme up with what we call a “happy climate apprach”. It’s ur way f talking abut the behaviral changes we have identified that nt nly reduce greenhuse gas emissins but als prvide a greater sense f hpe, appreciatin, gratitude r fulfillment in ur daily lives.
Nw I’ve cut my driving frm 8,000 kilmeters a year dwn t 2,700 kilmeters by wrking frm hme mst f the time. Nt nly des this save emissins, but it als gives me mre free time, which has been shwn t prmte happiness. I als chse t walk r bike everywhere I can. While it’s true that walking r biking can take mre time than driving, these mre active frms f transprtatin prvide mderate physical exercise, which can als elevate md.
And there’s a simple rule that I use t stay in a gd mental state. Fr every piece f bad climate news I encunter, I make sure t read at least ne psitive article n the climate. T prevent myself frm cnstantly scrlling thrugh disheartening news, I’ve adjusted my newsfeed (新闻推送) s that I can see psitive climate news n a regular basis, which brings me jy and hpe.
I knw we’re a lng way frm reversing the impacts f climate change. But at least with this apprach, I dn’t dread getting ut f bed, reaching fr my phne and reading the news.

When yu listen t music, it’s nt just yur ears that are engaged. The areas f yur brain respnsible fr emtin and memry als becme active. The hippcampus (海马体), essential fr memries, wrks clsely with the amygdala (杏仁体), the brain’s emtinal center. This explains why sme sngs are bth memrable and emtinal. Given music’s ability t evke emtins and trigger memries, we suppsed it culd alter the emtinal cntent f existing memries, thrugh the prcess f memry reactivatin.
T test this, we cnducted a three-day experiment. On the first day, participants memrized neutral stries. The next day, they recalled the stries while listening t psitive, negative music, r in silence, with fMRI (功能性磁共振成像) scans recrding their brain activity. On the final day, they recalled the stries withut music. The results were remarkable. When recalling neutral stries, participants listening t emtinally charged music were mre likely t add new emtinal elements int the stry that matched the md f the music.
The brain scans frm the experiment were even mre interesting. When participants recalled stries with music, there was increased activity in the hippcampus and amygdala. This is why a sng assciated with a significant life event can feel s pwerful — it activates bth emtin-and memry-prcessing regins at the same time. We als bserved strng cmmunicatin between these emtinal memry prcessing areas f the brain and the areas invlved in visual sensry prcessing. This suggests that music might add emtinal details int memries while participants are visually imagining the stries.
Our findings indicate that music serves as an emtinal lure (诱饵), becming intertwined with memries and subtly altering their emtinal tne. Fr peple dealing with cnditins such as depressin r PTSD (创伤后应激障碍), where negative memries can be verwhelming, carefully chsen music might help recnstruct thse memries in a mre psitive light and ptentially reduce their negative emtinal impact ver time. It als paves new paths fr explring music-based interventins in the treatment f depressin and ther mental health cnditins.
32. What is the purpse f the experiment?
A. T illustrate an argument.B. T draw a cmparisn.
C. T clarify a miscnceptin.D. T cnfirm an assumptin.
33. What can be inferred frm paragraph 3?
A. Music-aided memries are richer.B. Music makes life mre pwerful.
C. Brain areas wrk independently.D. Music has little impact n brain.
34. What’s the authr’s attitude tward the ptential f music in mental health treatment?
A. Skeptical.B. Psitive.C. Indifferent.D. Negative.
35. Which wuld be the best title fr the passage?
A. Music Can Alter the Emtinal Tne f MemryB. Music Can Separate Emtins frm Memry
C. Music Can Prmte Brain ActivityD. Music Can Help Imprve Memry

Hwever, peple dn’t always adpt new ideas like new inventins, fd and ways f life. Well, why is this the case? One pssible reasn is the availability f raw materials. Fr example, a freigner intrduced a tasty sup. But t make the sup, peple wuld have t use the dried leaves f a special plant that is nt available in this cuntry. S, n raw material. What happens next? They wuld nt make the sup a part f their regular diet, even if they enjyed the taste. Anther reasn is that if peple already have smething similar in their wn culture, they might reject the new item. In her tiny but czy Athens apartment, a 93-year-ld Greek wman whse name is Ianna Matsuka has knit thusands f brightly clured scarves fr children in shelters frm Greece t Ukraine — and she has n plans t quit just yet. “I will cntinue knitting until I die, and it brings me jy t share my creatins,” Matsuka declared, her knitting needles clicking rhythmically thrugh her skilled fingers.

本空后的时间状语“ver the years”常与现在完成时连用,其结构为“have/has+过去分词”,主语“Guiyang”是第三人称单数,故填has earned。
故填an。
