Her many years f dance and fitness helped her feel cnfident abut learning the chregraphy (编舞) required fr the training. “My apprach was t learn the track as a dance t be perfrmed n stage,” she explains.
Physical fitness has always been a central part f Lahey’s life. She’s been a dancer, chregrapher, and physical educatin teacher. Expsure t a high-sugar diet has previusly been linked t a raised risk f besity, type 2 diabetes (糖尿病) and high bld pressure. Whether this is a causal link is unclear, and investigatins int such questins are hampered since it’s hard fr researchers t frce peple t fllw specific diets. But the same isn’t true f wartime gvernments, s Gracner at the University f Suthern Califrnia and her clleagues made use f a situatin in Wrld War Ⅱ that acted like a natural experiment.
In January 1940, a few mnths int the war, the UK began ratining (配给) fd, which included limiting adults t arund 40 grams f sugar daily. When ratining ended in September 1953, peple rapidly increased their sugar cnsumptin.
Gracner’s team analyzed the health recrds f peple surveyed between 2006 and 2019, all raised during the last few years f ratining and expsed t limited sugar intake befre and after birth. The researchers als lked at the same data frm peple brn a year r s after ratining ended. The tw grups had a similar family histry f type 2 diabetes, t enable cmparisns between them. Acrss bth grups, the ccurrence f type 2 diabetes and high bld pressure was much lwer fr thse wh were raised during ratining. Members f this grup had a 35% lwer chance f develping type 2 diabetes by their mid-60s, and thse wh did s were n average fur years later than thse raised after ratining ended.
Grucially, while ratining saw many changes in the diets f British peple, it appears that cutting dwn n sugar made a big difference. One explanatin might be that early expsure t sugar sets up a preference fr eating sweet things thrughut life. It culd als lead t changes that reduce hw well peple cntrl bld sugar levels, raising the risk f type 2 diabetes and high bld pressure, Gracner says.
“The results shw there are clear benefits in cutting dwn n sugar, ” says Sctt Mntgmery in Sweden. “Peple shuld reduce sugar intake t the recmmended levels. ”

A new study led by PhD candidate Ashley Kim and Prfessr James Nieh has fund that artificial light is nt nly a health cncern fr humans, it als affects the sleep patterns f hneybees and pses a threat t their essential rle as pllinatrs (传粉者).
“Our research shws just hw sensitive hneybees are t changes in their envirnment, particularly t smething as seemingly harmless as artificial light,” said. Kim f the study: “By disturbing their sleep patterns, we see clear evidence f reduced sleep perids. This raises significant cncerns, nt nly fr bee health but als fr the health f ecsystems that depend n them fr pllinatin.”
Hneybees generally prefer t nest in dark envirnments, althugh a small-amunt f light can enter frm the entrance. Sleeping bees typically remain immbile but exhibit certain mvements if disturbed by nestmates.
Like us, when bees experience a pr night’s sleep, prblems in behavir and functin emerge. Sleep is crucial fr the health and fitness f grups f bees since they depend n a cmplicated system f cmmunicatin knwn as the “waggle dance” that infrms nestmates abut the lcatin f fd surces in the envirnment. Bees dance mre prly and therefre d nt cmmunicate as well if they d nt get enugh sleep.
Thrugh a series f experiments, researchers cmpared grups f bees that underwent nrmal sleep in the dark with thers that were subjected t cntinuus artificial light. The results clearly shwed that prlnged (长期的) expsure t light significantly affected the sleep pattern f hneybees, leading t bad behavirs.
Amng the details described in the paper, bees expsed t cntinuus light slept less and were mre frequently disturbed by ther bees cmpared t thse kept in nrmal darkness. Als, bees expsed t cntinuus light exhibited a preference fr darker areas within their experimental cages.
“Understanding the factrs that affect bee health, such as light pllutin, is essential fr develping strategies t prtect pllinatr ppulatins. With artificial light increasing, this research thrws light n hw such disturbances may be harming pllinatrs.” said Nieh.
32.What effect des artificial light have n bees?
A.Changing the clr f bees.B.Reducing the number f bees.
C.Making bees less sensitive.D.Shrtening bees’ sleep time.
33.What can we infer abut bees frm paragraph 4?
A.Sleep is n light matter fr bees.B.Bees dance t shw the fd amunt.
C.It is easy fr bees t have sleep prblems.D.Bees have the same sleep habits as humans.
34.What did researchers find in their experiments?
A.Lng sleep leads t bees’ bad behavir.B.Sleeping bees remain mtinless cmpletely.
C.Bees under cntinuus light like darker places.D.Hneybees prefer t nest in bright envirnments.
35.What is mainly talked abut in the text?
A.The variety f bees’ sleep pattern.B.The factrs that affect bees’ sleep.
C.The harm f artificial light n bees.D.The link between pllinatrs and ecsystems.

The idea behind the Pmdr Technique is that by breaking up yur wrk int smaller parts, it will be easier t fcus and get, things dne. Our attentin can nly last fr a certain time. 39
If yu find yurself struggling with prcrastinatin, give the Pmdr Technique a try. 40 Many peple have successfully vercme their prcrastinatin habits with this simple yet effective methd, and yu culd be ne f them.
A.Hwever, the ppsite wrks.
B.This technique respects this limit.
C.It just might help yu get things dne n time!
D.Additinally, taking breaks can help yu grasp this technique.
E.Yu’ll be a lt mre refreshed with shrt breaks scheduled frequently.
