【原文】Hi everyne, my name’s Marin Frdham and I’m a climate scientist. I’m here tday t talk t yu abut the histry f weather frecasting. Recrds frm as far back as 600 BCE frm Babyln, in ancient Iraq, suggest that clud shapes were used t make frecasts. Different animal behavirs were used t predict shrt-term weather patterns in Japan and many ther natins.
Methds f weather frecasting remained unchanged fr the next 2,000 years r s, until technlgical breakthrughs led t greater accuracy. The first f these, in the mid-15th century, measured hw damp air was. The first thermmeter, which was used t measure temperature, was created in the late 16th century and imprved weather predictins. By the start f the 20th century, a Nrwegian scientist emplyed mathematical calculatins fr frecasts, starting in 1904. It was time-cnsuming, as cmputers hadn’t been invented yet. In the 1920s, electrical equipment fr recrding weather-related data had becme mre reliable. Airplanes f the time were still unable t fly high enugh t gather relevant infrmatin, s ballns perfrmed this rle instead, as they were able t travel up t 30 kilmeters abve the earth’s surface befre bursting. Since the first satellite t be sent int space specifically t help with frecasts was launched in 1960, this technlgy has been a cntinuus presence abve earth.

Traditinal lgging jbs are ften requiring peratrs t multitask and bear nearly cnstant vibratin (振动) while perating lgging vehicles. Tired fresters dn’t always pay attentin t ther plants in the area, thus damaging the ecsystems arund them. Lgging is als dangerus; in the U. S., it has ne f the highest death rates f any industry.
Rbticists, sftware engineers and frestry schlars in Sweden set ut t autmate sme lgging tasks. They used GPS t set a path in a clear-cut area and equipped the vehicle with a cmputer visin system t help it identify, pick up and release cut lgs. D yu ever find yurself repeating a specific wrd in yur head ver and ver until the wrd suddenly makes n sense t yu and yu wnder why it’s a wrd at all? This is just ne f the many dd things ur brains d t us, and it’s a pretty funny experience when it happens.
This phenmenn is knwn as semantic satiatin (语义饱和) and it causes us t perceive a real wrd as meaningless sunds. Smetimes that lss f meaning can be a pain, smetimes it can be useful, and smetimes, it can even be unfrgettably beautiful.

The term was first cined in 1962, but research surrunding the phenmenn dates frm the early 20th century. There are multiple theries as t why semantic satiatin ccurs. One is that the repeated use f a neural pathway assciated with a wrd impacts respnse times, leading t the lss f meaning. Anther thery is that tiredness causes the cnnectin between wrd and meaning t get disrdered.
Mre recently, researchers have used neural netwrking simulatins (模拟) t try t identify why the phenmenn happens and anther set f researchers have fund that semantic satiatin delays facial expressin prcessing. In ther wrds, there isn’t an agreement as t why semantic satiatin happens.
Studies lking at semantic satiatin have typically invlved the repetitin f a wrd up t 30 times, with semantic satiatin, in sme cases, appearing after seven t nine repetitins. Sme wrds used during these studies have been as shrt as fur letters, but thers have been much lnger.
Smetimes, lsing the meaning f a wrd can actually be helpful. Judy Ravin f Accents Internatinal uses semantic satiatin t help English language learners fcus mre n hw yur muscles need t mve in rder t make the sunds required, rather than the meaning f a particular wrd. “A wrd in itself desn’t actually have meaning. A wrd is a symbl fr smething, s, when we can mve away frm the meaning and just think abut sund prductin, the physilgy, it’s helpful.”
      32. What can we learn frm semantic satiatin?
      A. It has its rigin frm mney. B. It is mst likely t be painful.
      C. It arises as a wrd is repeated enugh times.D. It’s ne f the few tricks ur brain plays n us.
      33. What des the wrd “cined” in paragraph 3 prbably mean?
      A. Created.B. Saved.C. Earned.D. Cllected.
      34. Hw des Judy Ravin help English learners?
      A. By strengthening muscles physically.
      B. By emphasizing learning wrds basically.
      C. By cmbining the meaning and sund rganically.
      D. By cncentrating n prnuncing wrds physilgically.
      35. What des the text mainly talk abut?
      A. Wh are suffering frm semantic satiatin.
