We’ve all been in a psitin where ur phne runs ut f battery, but we dn’t have anywhere t charge it. Well, what if the clthing yu were wearing culd help yu ut? It’s an ptin that isn’t as strange as yu might think. Nw the latest fashin breakthrugh is taking “activewear” in an entirely new directin: researchers at Nttingham Trent University have develped a new fabric that can keep small devices juiced.
The prttype (样品) includes 1,200 tiny slar panels, each measuring just 5 by 1.5 millimeters. It can generate 400 milliwatts f electrical energy, enugh t charge electrnic devices.
“Until nw very few peple have cnsidered their clthing prducts culd be used fr charging electrnic devices,” explains Thedre Hughes-Riley, an assciate prfessr f Electrnic Textiles. “The material which we have develped appears and behaves the same as any rdinary fabric, as it can be washed in a machine. Besides, because the tiny slar cells are cmprised f silicn (硅), wearers aren’t able t even ntice a discrepancy in the fabric’s cmpsitin when it is cmpared t standard clthing.”
Ptential prducts include items like uterwear, backpacks and ther carrying bags using the material, all f which culd allw wearers t keep their devices charged during the day. “Electrnic fabrics really have the ptential t change peple’s relatinship with technlgy, as this prttype has shwn hw we culd d away with charging many devices n the wall,” adds Thedre.
Slar pwer inventins are key t transitining (转变) human sciety frm fssil fuel technlgies, and are cming int a variety f fields. The Eurpean Space Agency, fr example, plans t experiment with slar panel systems rbiting abve Earth. Since there are n real “days” r “nights” in space, ptential slar pwer generatin culd be as much as 8 r 9 times greater than what’s currently achievable here n Earth’s surface. As pwerful as that may ne day be fr us, it’s encuraging t knw even changes like the cmpsitin f ur clthing can help facilitate the necessary renewable energy shift fr ur species.
      8. Why is the new fabric special?
      A. It can change clr in the sun.B. It can adjust bdy temperature.
      C. It can prduce electricity frm sunlight.D. It is much tugher than standard clthing.

      A. By making electrnic devices much cheaper.
      B. By reducing the demand fr fixed charging equipment.
      C. By making us mre aware f ur energy cnsumptin.
      D. By gradually increasing ur dependence n electrnic devices.
      11. What is the best title fr the passage?

A new study, led by Dr Steven Stagg f Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), fund the benefits f letter-spacing and clured verlays (涂层) amng a grup f dyslexic (诵读困难的) and nn-dyslexic children. It discvered that text with increased space between letters prvided a benefit fr bth grups f children. On average, the dyslexia grup shwed a 13% increase in reading speed, while the cmparisn grup f nn-dyslexic children shwed a 5% increase in reading speed.
The study invlved 59 children aged between 11 and 15,32 f whm had dyslexia, with 27 nn-dyslexic children frming a cntrl grup. The participants were frm six UK schls in Cambridgeshire, Hertfrdshire and Lndn.
Participants read fur texts with either standard r extra-large letter-spacing, bth with and withut a clured verlay. The children were instructed t read these texts ut lud while being recrded. The recrdings were used t measure the number f errrs they made—specifically missed wrds, added wrds, wrng wrds, and prnunciatin—as well as the participants’ reading time.
In additin t imprving reading speed f children with and withut dyslexia, the larger letter-spacing als resulted in a significant reductin in the number f wrds being missed by the children with dyslexia. Dr Stagg said, “We believe that extra-large letter-spacing reduces what is knwn as the ‘crwding effect’, which can prevent the recgnitin f letters and reduce reading speed.”
When viewed in the cntext f previus research, the findings strngly suggest that teaching prfessinals shuld be cnfident that all children will be helped by increased letter-spacing in reading materials. It’s a relatively simple change fr teachers t make when they prduce handut s and exercises, and children with dyslexia wn’t feel singled ut by the intrductin f specially adapted reading materials, as this change is smething that everyne can benefit frm.
The study shwed clred verlays didn’t affect reading speed r errr reductin in children. Despite this, Dr. Stagg recmmends using them, as they might imprve reading stamina (耐力).
      12. What des the new study fcus n accrding t Paragraph 1?
      A. The features f dyslexia.
      B. The gap in children’s reading ability.
      C. Ways f examining children’s cmprehensin.
      D. Certain factrs helping imprve children’s reading ability.
      13. What did the researchers d during the study?
      A. They asked children t dcument the reading material.
      B. They taught children sme reading skills.
      C. They studied the recrdings f children’s reading.
      D. They bserved children’s perfrmances in class.
      14. Hw are children with dyslexic affected by the “crwding effect”?
      A. They may read materials faster than usual.
      B. They may make mre mistakes when reading.
      C. They are frced t reflect n themselves mre.
      D. They are willing t spend mre time reading.

      C Ways f examining children’s cmprehensin.
      D. Certain factrs helping imprve children’s reading ability.
      13. What did the researchers d during the study?
