What a day! I started my new schl this mrning and had the best time. I made lts f new friends and really liked my teachers. I was nervus the night befre but I had n reasn t be. Everyne was s friendly and plite. They made me feel at ease. It seemed that I’d been at the schl fr a hundred years!

Jhn Vern, widely knwn as “the Gdfather f Cral Reef (珊瑚礁)”, is a celebrated expert wh has persnally discvered nearly a quarter f the wrld’s cral species and has spent the past 45 years diving Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. But nw the 73-year-ld is raising the alarm abut its future. The Great Barrier Reef, ne f the natural wnders, is 2, 300 kilmeters lng and is the nly living rganism that can be seen frm space. It is cnsidered a Wrld Treasure Site due t its bidiversity (生物多样性) with 30 species f whales, dlphins and sharks. Within the reef itself, there are als a number f tiny rganisms and fishes.

Frtunately, earlier this year, the Australian gvernment annunced nearly 400 millin dllars in new funding twards scientific prjects designed t help the reef.
There has been criticism in Australia abut the slw prcess fr the funding. “It wn’t be wasted, thugh, ” Vern says. “As scientists will be able t create a srt f seed bank t prtect the species until the climate is gd enugh t rebuild the reef. In 2017, Parcak launched an nline platfrm, called Glbal Xplrer, t crwd surce (群众外包)the initial assessment f satellite images fr signs f cultures frm lng ag. Anyne in the wrld with a cmputer and Internet access culd help discver and prtect remains f Peru's rich cultural heritage. The results have been surprising. Abut 80,000 participants frm a hundred cuntries have identified 19,000 sites that were nt in Peru's database. The platfrm fr Peru is still running.
If all ges well, the wrk in India culd last fr years. "India has had relatively little archaelgical wrk dne," Parcak says. Als, the full extent f India's archaelgical wrk has never been mapped cmpletely. Parcak expects her prject t make up that. “Wherever we end up ging, the crwd's ging t be able t see extrardinary things," Parcak says.
