It was my secnd year f high schl but my first in St. Paul’s Schl. The previus night, I had determined that I wuld be far happier in a new schl if I befriended the s-called “ppular” kids. Scializing with the right crwd wuld surely enhance my life. I even purchased a new set f clthes and had my hair dne t ensure the first day wuld be perfect.
Nervus yet eager t start my new life, I went up the stairs t the frnt entrance. The hallways were filled with children shuting, laughing, and sharing tales f their summer vacatins. My first class was gemetry, but I had n idea where it was.
As I std in the hall lking cnfused, a shrt, blnde girl with glasses apprached and inquired, “Are yu new? Yu seem lst. D yu need assistance? My name is Diane. What’s yurs?” Althugh she appeared a bit strange and was nt the type f persn I wanted t befriend, I decided t reply since I was indeed lst.
After intrducing urselves, I fllwed her up the stairs and alng a hallway n the right, making small talk all the while. When we arrived at my classrm, she said, “Well, here yu are. Welcme t ur schl, and I hpe yur day ges smthly.”
I thanked her and waved gdbye. Once inside the classrm, I nticed a large grup f peple gathered arund smene wh seemed t be telling a stry. I walked ver and gt clse enugh t listen in. Everyne’s attentin was fixed n the guy in the middle f the circle wearing a letter jacket cvered with patches. I judged that this guy must be ppular, s I managed t secure a seat right next t him and said, “Hi, my name is Sara and I’m new here.” He replied, “Michael.”
