Benanav spent 44 days living with a family, and thrugh the help f a translatr, set abut learning all he culd abut their nmadic, frest-dwelling lifestyle. One f the mst impressive things Benanav nticed was hw devted the tribe members were nt nly t ne anther, but t the water buffal (水牛) which their lives centred arund. “They think f their buffales as family members. They wuld never eat them. They never even sell them fr killing. And even thugh this is a Muslim cmmunity, they als happen t be vegetarian, nt fr any religius reasns, but because they really just dn’t like the idea f killing animals,” he said. The family keeps their buffales just fr the milk they prduce, he explained.
The Van Gujjars live all year in the wilderness. But the tribe’s traditinal hmelands are becming less accessible as the land is included int natinal parks and wildlife shelters.
“Sme f them have already been frced ut frm the frests where they and their ancestrs have lived fr ver 1,000 years,” Benanav bserved. “And thers are tday facing that same kind f pressure.” “T the typical American mentality, natinal parks are created n these untuched wild lands where peple dn’t live,” he said. “But that’s because here in the United States, the native peple were driven frm the areas that became natinal parks 100-plus years ag already.”

Scientists tell us that the dg slightly shaking its legs while asleep is dreaming. Similarly, when a bird silently nds ff n its resting place, it may als dream as its singing muscles mve. Culd it be rehearsing(排练) in its sleep?
Physicist Gabriel B. Mindlin frm University f Buens Aires examines cnnectins between birds’ dreams and sng prductin—particularly in Zebra Finches, which ften learn new sngs, and in Great Kiskadees, which have a limited sng-learning ability. In earlier wrk, Mindlin and clleagues placed electrdes(电极) in tw Zebra Finches. In a recent study, they did the same fr tw Great Kiskadees. This let them recrd and cmpare neurn(神经元) and muscle activity in the sleeping birds.
When awake, Zebra Finches sing a well-regulated line f staccat ntes. But their sleeping sng mvements are discnnected and randm—rather like a dream. It seems that a sleeping finch silently practice a few “ntes” and then add sme ther ntes, prducing a pattern f muscle activity, just like that f learning a musical instrument. In cntrast, such “rehearsing” appears far less likely in the nn-learning Great Kiskadees. The scientists transfrmed kiskadees muscle mvements int sunds thrugh a mathematical mdel. They nticed the sund cnsisted f quick, similar syllables that sunded unexpectedly lud and intense—“mre like a nightmare(噩梦) than a dream,” c-authr Amadr says. Sleeping kiskadees ften cmbined these mvements with a threatening flash f head feathers, which ften ccurs during cnflicts while awake. Listening in n a sleeping sngbird helps us better understand its waking behavir,” Amadr stated.
University f Chicag neurscientist Daniel Margliash, whse pineering 1990s wrk characterized birds’ sng-learning brain regins, says the new results agree with his wn bservatins f sleeping birds. But he advises a secnd thught in describing this activity as “dreaming.” Accrding t him, future wrk shuld mre clsely examine the sleep states the birds, including rapid eye mvement (REM) sleep, a sleep stage that is clsely related t dreaming in ther animals and nn-REM sleep.
28, Which f the fllwing can replace the underlined phrase in paragraph 1?
A. Shakes legs.B. Nds head.
C. Falls asleep.D. Stretches ut.
29. What was dne during the research?
A. Tracking birds’ muscle mves.
B. Observing birds’ brain structure.
C. Checking birds’ sleep quality.
D. Cmparing birds’ bdy shapes.
30, What can we knw abut the sleeping birds frm the research findings?
A. Kiskadees will sing ludly.
B. Finches may practice sngs.
C. Kiskadees can slve cnflicts.
D. Finches can learn an instrument.
31. What is Daniel Margliash’s suggestin abut the future research?
A. Ignring nn-REM sleep states.
B. Lking int different sleep stages.
C. Recnsidering the term “dreaming”.
D. Explring sng-learning brain regins.

Aristtle thught he face was a windw nt a persn's mind. Tw thusand years later, facial expressins are still cmmnly thught t be a universally effective way t knw ther peple's feelings, withut cnsidering age, sex and culture. A raised eyebrw suggests cnfusin. A smile shws happiness. A frwn indicates sadness.
Or d they? An analysis f hundreds f research papers that examined the relatinship between facial expressins and underlying emtins has uncvered a surprising cnclusin: there is n gd scientific evidence t suggest that there are such things as recgnizable facial expressins fr basic emtins which are universal acrss cultures. Just because a persn is nt smiling, the researchers fund, des nt mean that persn is unhappy.
As Lisa Feldman Barrett, ne f the authrs f the study, tld the AAAS meeting in Seattle, “On average, adults in urban cultures frwned when they were angry 30% f the time”. It meant that sme 70% f the time they did nt frwn when angry. Instead, they did smething else with their faces. A frwn, the researchers cncluded, is certainly ne expressin f anger. But it is nt the nly way peple express that emtin. The ambiguus nature f facial expressins was nt restricted t anger, but seemed effective fr all six f the emtinal categries that they examined: anger, disgust, fear, happiness, sadness and surprise.
The effrts f infrmatin-technlgy cmpanies t develp Al algrithms(算法) that can recgnize facial expressins and interpret underlying emtinal states raise questins. Micrsft, fr instance, believes its “Emtin AP” can detect emtins frm vide ftage. Hwever, Aleix Martinez, a cmputer engineer, expresses dubt, nting the imprtance f cntext ften verlked by these cmpanies. Given peple's struggle t guess each ther's emtins, Martinez dubts cmputers’ ability t d s. He warns f cmpanies applying such technlgy in hiring practices, analyzing vide CVs and making decisins based n facial expressins, which he cnsiders nt nly imperfect but als dangerus.
32.What's Aristtle's view n facial expressins?
A. They are hard t read.
C. They shw true feelings.
B. They can be cntrlled.
D. They vary acrss cultures.
33. What can be inferred frm the analysis?
A. Adults ften hide emtins.
C. Peple frwn when feeling angry.
B. Facial expressins are unreliable.
D. Accurate emtins are recgnizable.
34, What des the underlined wrd “ambiguus” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Uncertain.B. Unchanged.
C. DefiniteD. Dynamic.
35. What des paragraph 4 mainly talk abut?
A. The develpment f AI in hiring practices.
B. The Micrsft’s cnfidence in “mtin API”.
C. The dubts abut AI’s ability t read emtins.
D. The imprtance f cntext in identifying emtins.
