"In the shrt term, it's abslutely gd news," said lead authr Eric Regehr. In the lng term, it desn't mean the Chukchi Sea bear ppulatin will nt be affected. "Plar bears need ice t hunt seals, and the ice is likely t decline until the prblem f climate change is addressed," Regehr said. "Plar bears spend mst f their lives n sea ice. Less sea ice means less prductive time t hunt ice seals, mre time n shre and lnger swims."
The study shws there is variatin arund the wrld in the effects f sea ice lss n plar bears. "Sme subppulatins are already declining while thers are still ding OK," Regehr said.
Fewer cubs (幼熊) were surviving int their secnd year and adult males weighed less and had smaller skulls (头骨). Researcher Steven Amstrup said the trends were cnsistent with changes in nutritinal status likely assciated with declines in Sea ice.
A mre recent study by researcher Karyn Rde fund that Chukchi bears spend mre time n shre and have almst 30 fewer days t hunt seals n ice than 20 years ag. Hwever, that desn't appear t have affected the ppulatin. Plar bears have an amazing ability t build fat reserves, and the Chukchi's cpius seal ppulatin apparently allws bears t cmpensate fr the lss f hunting time.

The "pen science" cncept is gaining mre fllwers, especially thrugh the effrts f United Natins Educatinal, Scientific and Cultural Organizatin (UNESCO). Over the past several years, the Organizatin has been cnsulting n hw science can becme mre cllabrative (协作的), transparent, accessible, equitable and inclusive. At the end f last year, UNESCO published a reprt n the current status f this effrt.
UNESCO's reprt described several examples f psitive initiatives, such as in research cllabratin, pen-access scientific publishing and public engagement in science. Fr example, in 2020, the Brazilian gvernment launched the Natinal Platfrm f Research Infrastructure, a digital platfrm in which scientific institutins can register their available facilities and make them available t researchers utside their rganizatin. The Eurpean Cmmissin, based in Brussels, was an early supprter f pen science. Between 2002 and 2020, it increased its funding fr scietal engagement prjects frm €88 millin t €462 millin.
Other indicatrs are less rsy, hwever. Arund three-quarters f publicatins in pen- access databases are in just six languages — with nearly half being in English alne. And in spite f sme f the prgress mentined, verall the reprt finds that scientific institutins, such as universities, natinal science academies and jurnals, are struggling t include cmmunities, in all their diversity, in the prcess f creating scientific knwledge itself.
The United Natins (UN)'s Sustainable Develpment Gals (SDGs) are the best attempt t map a pathway twards a better future, and a mre pen apprach t science culd have a larger part t play in achieving them.
That attempt needs as much help as it can get: Mnitring SDGs indicatrs is ne bvius way that citizen scientists can help. Sme f the largest gaps in the cllectin f relevant SDGs data are in lw-and middle-incme cuntries, which is where citizen research can really make a difference.
The UNESCO reprt shines a much-needed light n sme prmising develpments in pen science. The challenge will be hw t accumulate (累积) individual examples f gd practice int smething similar t a critical mass, s that, in cases such as mnitring the SDGs, they can be made use f t get the wrld t where it needs t be.
32.Hw did the Brazilian gvernment cntribute t pen science?
A.It made Internet mre accessible wrldwide.
B.It set up a digital resurce-sharing platfrm.
C.It funded Eurpe's scietal engagement prjects.
D.It translated publicatins int multiple languages.
33.What is paragraph 3 mainly abut?
A.Examples f sme new initiatives.
B.Indicatrs f a prmising science field.

B.Creating city maps arund the wrld.
C.Prviding mre supprt fr nline technlgy.
D.Encuraging citizens t engage in science.
35.What can we learn frm the text?

I lved the spelling bee (拼字比赛) s much that every afternn after schl, I wuld diligently train. Hwever, little did I knw that my ppnent in the spelling bee wuld ne day becme a cherished friend.
On Friday mrning, I wke up at 6:27. My usual waking time was 7:01, granting me an unexpected thirty-fur extra minutes t study. As the best speller in my class, I was determined t win the Meadwbrk Middle Schl spelling bee and defeat my ppnent, Nathan Frtescue.
Nathan was a devtee f science and math. He wasn't really a speller at heart; he was a mathematician. Nathan and I had nthing in cmmn except being gd spellers. Besides, he seemed t spell well withut much effrt.
I went t the kitchen and fund Dad making breakfast. I tld him abut the spelling test and my anxiety. He quizzed me n sme wrds, but they were easy fr me. Then he asked, "Hw d yu spell 'argument'?" I cnfidently replied, "Easy, A-R-G-U-E-M-E-N-T," withut a secnd thught.
Dad shk his head. I didn't believe him, s I checked the dictinary. When I came back, he said I shuld thank him because that wrd might be n the test.
As I shut the classrm dr, a vice came frm the back f the rm. "Yu're lking a bit pale. I'm afraid yu might nt make it thrugh the spelling bee," Nathan said with a smile as he clsed a giant bk with dancing numbers n its cver.
"I bet a literature wrd will knck yu ut in the first rund," I replied.
Then Ms. Hawking entered the rm, explaining the rules — ne miss and yu are ut — and the spelling test began. After fur intense runds, nly Nathan and I remained. "Olivia, yur wrd is 'algrithm'," Ms. Hawking annunced. I had never heard that wrd befre, but I spelt it: "A-L-G-O-R-Y-T-H-M."

根据Garden Curt Café部分中的“Steamed Chinese Dumplings served in bamb baskets”可知。
根据Side Park Café部分中的“Open frm 8 am Mndays thrugh Fridays, and 11 am Saturdays and Sundays, until 8 pm Wednesdays thrugh Saturdays and 6 pm Sundays thrugh Tuesdays”可知,这家餐厅一周七天都营业。

根据第二段中的“her parents drpped her ff at barding schl... L'Engle later said that 'it helped me becme a writer.'”
根据第五段中的“The bigraphers fcus their stry n L'Engle's childhd.”
