由文章第一段“I was attacked by a tiger shark in late Octber 1997. It was near my hme n the island f Kauai—a typical fall mrning with friends. The waves were really gd, s nthing was stpping us.(1997年10月下旬,我被一条虎鲨袭击。 和第二段“That is until a large shark came right up under me and sank his teeth int my lwer leg. There had been n splashing. n nise, and I felt n pain, nly great pressure n my lwer bdy.(直到一条大鲨鱼从我身下钻了过来,把牙齿咬进了我的小腿。
由文章第五段“I was unshaken and curius—Was it because f the tides? The phase f the mn? I als recalled that the mrning f the attack the water had a fishy smell. Was that what attracted the shark?(我毫不动摇地好奇——是因为潮汐吗?

由文章第六段“I was determined t research sharks, and I did learn smething that wuld change my life: Humans are far mre dangerus t sharks than the ther way arund, I tell Reader’s Digest. ‘I watched a dcumentary called Sharkwater, and I learned abut the demand fr shark fin sup and the fact that 70 millin sharks a year are killed fr their fins alne.’(我下定决心研究鲨鱼,我确实学到了一些会改变我生活的东西:我告诉《读者文摘》,人类对鲨鱼的危险性远高于其它东西。

C
Life cntinually requires that we write dwn a few wrds f thanks: fr hlidays, meals, presents r peple’s place in ur hearts. Hwever, t ften, ur messages end up flat r smewhat uncnvincing. T make ur messages mre effective, we might take a lessn frm the histry f art.
T sme extent, what distinguishes great frm cmmn art is the level f detail with which the wrld has been studied. A talented artist is, first and fremst, smene wh takes us int the specifics f the reasns why an experience r a place felt valuable. They dn’t merely tell us that spring is ‘nice’, they zer in n the particular cntributing factrs t this niceness: leaves that have the sftness f a newbrn’s hands, the cntrast between a warm sun and a sharp breeze, the sft cry f baby
Sme f the reasn why great artists are rare is that ur minds are nt well set up t understand why we feel as we d. But we can be cnfident if ur minds have been affected, the reasns why they’ve been s will be smewhere, waiting t be uncvered. We stand t realise that it wasn’t s much that the fd was ‘delicius’; but that the ptates in particular had a charming rsemary and garlic flavur. A friend wasn’t just ‘nice’; they brught in a hugely sensitive and generus tne t bear in asking us what it had been like fr us when we suffered. The details will be there, waiting fr us t catch them.
We dn’t have t be great artists t send effective thank-yu ntes. We just need t lcate and hld n tightly t tw r three highly detailed reasns fr ur gratitude.
28. What can we infer frm paragraph 1?
A. We seldm express gratitude by writing.
B. We usually find messages f thanks tuching.
C. We shuld take a curse fr message writing.
D. We may draw inspiratin fr thank-yus frm arts.
29. What des the underlined phrase “zer in n” in paragraph 2 prbably mean?
A. Leave ut.B. Clear up.C. Fcus n.D. Hld back.
30. Hw is paragraph 3 develped?
A. By classificatin.B. By example.C. By definitin.D. By prcess.
31. Which wuld the authr recmmend t express gratitude?
A. I am blessed t have such a wnderful week.
B. Yur caring and warm smile lights up my day.
C. Thank yu s much fr yur great present.
D. This is the mst delicius dinner I’ve ever had.
D 29. C 30. B 31. B
根据第一段最后一句“T make ur messages mre effective, we might take a lessn frm the histry f art.(为了使我们的信息更有效,我们可以从艺术史上吸取教训)”可知,我们可以从艺术中得到写感谢信的灵感。
根据第二段最后一句中的“leaves that have the sftness f a newbrn’s hands, the cntrast between a warm sun and a sharp breeze, the sft cry f baby (树叶有新生儿的手的柔软,温暖的太阳和刺骨的微风的对比,小黑鸟轻柔的叫声……)”
根据第三段第二句“But we can be cnfident if ur minds have been affected, the reasns why they’ve been s will be smewhere, waiting t be uncvered.(但我们可以相信,如果我们的思想受到了影响,那么受到影响的原因将在某个地方,等待被发现)”和第三段最后一句“The details will be there, waiting fr us t catch them.(细节会在那里,等着我们抓住它们)”可知,第二句和最后一句前后呼应,第三句和第四句“We stand t realise that it wasn’t s much that the fd was ‘delicius’; but that the ptates in particular had a charming rsemary and garlic flavur. A friend wasn’t just ‘nice’; they brught in a hugely sensitive and generus tne t bear in asking us what it had been like fr us when we suffered.(我们会意识到,食物并不是那么美味;但土豆特别有迷迭香和大蒜的香味。

根据第一段“Perrn, an earth scientist at MIT, reviewed interview s f Kuikur peple cnducted by a Kuikur filmmaker in 2018 and fund that Kuikur villagers actively make dark earth by using ash, fd bits and cntrlled burns.(麻省理工学院的地球科学家Perrn回顾了2018年Kuikur电影制作人对Kuikur人的采访,发现Kuikur村民通过使用灰烬、食物碎片和控制燃烧积极地制造黑暗的土地)”及“When cmparing sil samples frm ancient and mdern sites, researchers fund “striking similarities” — bth were far less acidic than surrunding sils and cntained higher levels f plant-friendly nutrients.(在比较古代和现代遗址的土壤样本时,研究人员发现了“惊人的相似之处”——两者的酸性都远低于周围土壤,并且含有更高水平的植物友好营养物质)”可知,黑土地富含更多的利于植物成长的营养物质,也就是有机营养成分。故选B。
根据第二段“Scans (扫描) f the Xingu regin suggest that the area is dtted with dark earth, and that hld as much as abut 9 millin tns f carbn — the annual carbn emissins f a small, industrialized cuntry. “This number culd rughly equal the annual carbn emissins f the United States when all dark earth acrss the Amazn is taken int cnsideratin,” Perrn says.(对新古地区的扫描表明,该地区散布着暗土,其中含有约900万吨碳——相当于一个小型工业化国家的年碳排放量。
根据最后一段“With mre and mre greenhuse gases entering the atmsphere, it culd als prvide a blueprint fr develping methds f sustainably lcking atmspheric carbn in the sil, helping fight climate change.(随着越来越多的温室气体进入大气,它也可以为开发可持续地将大气碳锁定在土壤中的方法提供蓝图,帮助应对气候变化)”可知,黑土地极强的碳吸附能力为对抗全球气候变化提供了可能的解决方案。

根据空前的“In rder t survive in the wrld with challenges, we need t be wise.(为了在这个充满挑战的世界上生存,我们需要变得聪明)”以及后文“Let me tell yu this, wisdm prvides us with perspective when we need it and it calms us dwn in terrible situatins.(让我告诉你,当我们需要的时候,智慧会给我们提供视角,在糟糕的情况下,智慧会让我们冷静下来)”可知,智慧对每个人来说都是十分重要的,所以B项“为什么智慧在现代社会如此重要?”
设空处位于段首,是本段的中心句,根据后文“This will pen up new pathways fr us. Never base yur perspective n the mst ppular pinin r which is the mst cmfrtable fr yu. Train yur mind t be a judgment-free space fr ideas. If yu are humble, then yu will always get t experience smething new.(这将为我们开辟新的道路。
上文“Yu must be the kind f persn wh learns smething new every day. Take new classes, read bks and the list ges n and n.(你一定是那种每天都能学到新东西的人。
此处位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“Yu bviusly want t grw and d better in life, right? The best way is t have wise peple as yur mentrs (导师), like teachers, clleagues and even special friends. Prir t making them a mentr, find ut what makes them wiser, then engage in useful dialgue with them.(你显然想要成长,想要在生活中做得更好,对吗?
根据前文“If yu have accumulated a lt f knwledge, then why nt share it with thers t?(如果你积累了很多知识,那么为什么不与他人分享呢?)” 与本段主题相符,且G项中的“Cmmunicating with thers”与上文中的“share it with thers”相呼应。故选G项。
