中国面积最大,平均海拔最高的自然保护区; 世界第二大陆域类自然保护区;“世界屋脊”的屋脊。
Land type 内陆湿地 Acreage(面积)298000平方公里(接近3个江苏省)Administrative regin(行政区域)(西藏自治区西北部)安多、尼玛、改则、双湖、革吉、日土、噶尔等县。Prtectin bjects(保护对象)藏羚羊等大型有蹄类动物及高寒生态系统。据现有资料,保护区有哺乳动物26种,鸟类83种,有鱼类、爬行类和昆虫等种类。该保护区内藏羚羊、西藏野驴和藏原羚羊的数量都超过万只,其中藏羚羊的数量在10万只以上。Date f establishment(成立日期)1993年经西藏自治区人民政府批准成立,2000年4月4日经国务院批准晋升为国家级自然保护区。Supplement(补充)“羌塘”为藏语,意为“北方旷野”,在地理上没有严格的界限,泛指藏北高原内流水系的连片地域,面积约为70万平方公里。这里地处“世界屋脊”的青藏高原腹地,平均海拔5000米,植被稀少,交通不便,人迹罕至,北羌塘历来有“无人区”之称。
