中国面积最大，平均海拔最高的自然保护区; 世界第二大陆域类自然保护区;“世界屋脊”的屋脊。
Land type 内陆湿地 Acreage（面积）298000平方公里（接近3个江苏省）Administrative regin（行政区域）（西藏自治区西北部）安多、尼玛、改则、双湖、革吉、日土、噶尔等县。Prtectin bjects（保护对象）藏羚羊等大型有蹄类动物及高寒生态系统。据现有资料，保护区有哺乳动物26种，鸟类83种，有鱼类、爬行类和昆虫等种类。该保护区内藏羚羊、西藏野驴和藏原羚羊的数量都超过万只，其中藏羚羊的数量在10万只以上。Date f establishment（成立日期）1993年经西藏自治区人民政府批准成立，2000年4月4日经国务院批准晋升为国家级自然保护区。Supplement（补充）“羌塘”为藏语，意为“北方旷野”，在地理上没有严格的界限，泛指藏北高原内流水系的连片地域，面积约为70万平方公里。这里地处“世界屋脊”的青藏高原腹地，平均海拔5000米，植被稀少，交通不便，人迹罕至，北羌塘历来有“无人区”之称。
