Glbal travel is getting busier and busier, and this begs a questin: Is there such a thing as an ff-seasn anymre?
Recently, FrwardKeys, a Spain-based travel data and analysis cmpany, cllected sme numbers in three f the wrld’s mst ppular beach destinatins: Thailand, Hawaii and the Maldives. Here’s the math: take the ttal number f turists in a year and divide that figure by 12, which wrks ut t an average f arund 8% per mnth. Then, yu can create a graph (图表) t see which mnths are higher r lwer than that average.
“In Thailand, lw seasn typically lasts frm April t September with April and May being really ht,” says Olivier Pnti, a directr at FrwardKeys. “During this lw seasn, the turist vlume each mnth cvers ver 7% f the annual ttal. That means very, very little seasnality.”
Arguably, the biggest single factr affecting what we knw as “peak seasn” travel is weather. A 2023 survey frm the Eurpean Travel Cmmissin reprted that Eurpean travelers cited weather as their number-ne factr in deciding where t g n vacatin, with 8% f respndents saying they were cncerned abut extreme weather in Eurpean destinatins.
Climate may be an imprtant factr in bking a hliday, but it’s nt the nly ne. FrwardKeys’ Pnti, a father f tw, ntes that many travelers have t plan their trips at the same time because they’re wrking arund schl schedules.
But every family’s situatin is different. Fr thse whse kids are grwn r wh dn’t have kids at all, there’re mre pprtunities t travel.
Ann Wdward, a childfree American, makes a pint f learning schl schedules in her area s that she can plan arund them. “I’m generally trying nt t g t turistic attractins during thse perids. I call it hiding,” she laughs. Wdward spent much f her yuth traveling and has already checked ff many f the big places that attract the mst crwds, which means she can nw g t less busy areas during an ff-seasn. “Fr me, the challenge is abut finding the jy in thse lw seasns,” she says.

A.Turists find ways t fight verturism.

If a stranger kncked n yur dr asking fr using yur phne, wuld yu help? Hw abut lending them five dllars fr the bus, if they said they’d return and pay yu back?
Nwadays, many peple find it hard t trust strangers. A recent study fund that ur ability t trust strangers may be mre than just a scial r psychlgical trait (特征) — it culd be rted in ur DNA.This is imprtant, as it turns ut that trusting peple might actually live lnger and healthier lives cmpared t mre skeptical peple.
Tw main theries have appeared t explain why sme peple are mre trusting than thers. One suggests trust is a stable trait shaped by early life experiences. The ther thinks it’s influenced by a persn’s nging evaluatin f the scial envirnment. We can easily imagine that the answer t the questin “Wuld yu say that mst peple can be trusted? ” wuld depend n whether yu’d been rbbed the day befre r if yu’d had yur drpped wallet returned.
This is where the recent research cmes in. A prfessr f Lund University, Edgertn and his cwrkers have been ding research abut trust. In their mst recent study, invlving 33, 882 Danish bld dnrs, their analyses identified a single gene (基因), PLPP4, which was strngly assciated with the trait f trusting thers. They discvered that the PLPP4 gene explained 6% f the variatin in scial trust within the study ppulatin. If yu take tw peple wh have similar educatin and life experiences, this gene alne culd accunt fr 6% f the difference in hw much they trust thers.
They suspect that the PLPP4 gene may smehw sften ur “fight-r-flight” survival mechanism. If ur fight-r-flight system is less intense when we encunter new peple, it makes sense that tending t trust thers culd have huge health benefits. Indeed, if trusting thers acts as smething against stress, it may lwer the risk f cardivascular (心血管的) disease.
As peple cntinue t uncver the mysteries f trust, ne thing is clear: Understanding its genetic rts may hld the key t develping healthier cmmunities in the wrld.
12.What might affect peple’s trust levels accrding t the existing theries?
    A.Their childhd habits.B.Their scial experiences.
    C.Their persnal abilities.D.Their cmmunicatin skills.
13.What des the recent study fcus n?
A.The ways t develp survival ability.
    B.The mental cause f trust.
C.The cnnectin between trust and a gene.
    D.The features f different genes.
14.What des the text say abut trusting thers?
A.It culd bring health benefits.B.It helps t develp the wrld faster.
C.It lessens the intense stress in wrk.D.It causes better survival mechanisms.
15.What might be the best title fr the text?
A.Theries That Explain Why Yu Are Trusted
