    An artificial intelligence (人工智能) system has shwn it can save lives by warning dctrs t check n patients whse heart test results shw a high risk f dying. Ina test with almst 16,000 patients, the AI helped reduce the ttal deaths by 31% amng peple wh were at high risk.
    “This is actually quite amazing,” says Eric Tpl at the Scripps Research Translatinal Institute in Califrnia. “It is quite uncmmn fr any drug t result in a 31% reductin in the number f deaths, and then even mre unusual fr a nn-drug — this is just mnitring peple with AI.”
    Chin Lin at Texas Medical Center and his clleagues trained their AI n mre than 450,000 electrcardigram (ECG) (心电图) tests, which measure the heart’s electrical activity, alng with the survival data f the ECG subjects. The AI learned t prduce a percentile (百分位) scre representing each patient’s risk f death, whse scre in the 95th percentile r higher wuld be cnsidered high risk.
    The researchers then tested the AI warning system with 39 dctrs at tw different hspitals. As nurses transmitted each new patient’s ECG tests t a cmputer server, the AI system wuld analyse the results and warn dctrs if it identified smene as being high risk. In additin t reducing the risk f death frm all causes, the AI system als reduced the death rate frm heart issues in high-risk patients by mre than 90%.
    Lin and his clleagues say the AI warnings may help fcus attentin n the highest risk grup. During the research dctrs usually fllwed up warnings with mre tests and treatment.
