    Eric Carle, the authr and artist behind The Very Hungry Caterpillar and dzens f ther children's bks, has passed away at the age f 91. Mr. Carle's lively, creative and clrful wrks were lved by children arund the wrld.
    Mr. Carle was the authr r illustratr f ver 70 bks fr children, including The Gruchy Ladybug, The Mixed- Up Chamelen and Papa, Please Get the Mn fr Me、The Very Hungry Caterpillar was Mr. Carle's best- knwn bk. It was published in 1969. Since then, ver 55 millin cpies f the bk have been sld, and it has been translated int mre than 70 different languages.
    Mr. Carle was brn in Syracuse, New Yrk in 1929. His parents were German. As he was grwing up, Mr. Carle spent a lt f time with his father, wh wuld take him ut walking in nature. His father wuld shw him small creatures, explaining their life cycles and filling the yung by's head with wnder.
