Over the years, mvies and bks have used trnades t sweep their characters ff t magical lands, t destry entire cities, r t defeat a superher’s dangerus super villain (恶棍). All f these trnades have ne thing in cmmn: They are incredibly pwerful. They can have wind speeds ver 300 miles per hur (mph), grw ver a mile wide, and travel ver 50 miles. They are incredibly dangerus and shuld be avided at all csts.
Scientists can’t g inside trnades, which means that they are extremely hard t research. As a result, we knw surprisingly little abut them. In rder t tell hw pwerful a trnad is, scientists lk at hw much destructin it causes. Scientists then rank the trnad n the Enhanced Fujita Scale (级别) (EF-Scale), which ranges frm EF0 t EF5. Fr example, a trnad that nly damages trees but desn’t significantly damage buildings wuld be rated EFO with wind speeds between 65 and 85 mph. A trnad that blws away buildings and tears up sidewalks, n the ther hand, wuld be rated EF5 with wind speeds ver 200 mph.
The mst pwerful trnad in United States histry ccurred near Oklahma City in1999. It had wind speeds ver 310 mph, the highest wind speed ever recrded n Earth. A trnad with wind speeds that high can nt nly pick up and thrw autmbiles, but als knck ver trains and tear up radways.
Luckily fr anyne living in an area that experiences the ccasinal trnades, they usually nly last ne t ten minutes. Mre pwerful trnades can last ver an hur in the right cnditins, but they are very rare.
If yu find yurself experiencing a trnad, find a safe place inside, like an interir hall, basement r clset. Stay away frm windws and heavy bjects that culd fall n yu, and lie n yur stmach with yur hands prtecting the back f yur head. Having a trnad emergency plan is extremely imprtant as trnades can appear very quickly. Make sure t listen t the radi r televisin t stay updated n serius weather patterns in yur area.

    A.65 mph.B.85 mph.C.200 mph.D.310 mph.
9.What can we learn frm the example given in paragraph 3?
A.Trnades can d great harm.B.American cars need develping.
C.Oklahma City had n trains in 1999.D.The strngest trnad ccurred in the UK.
10.What is the last paragraph mainly abut?
    A.What a trnad is.B.Hw a trnad frms.
    C.Tips t survive a trnad.D.Hw t recgnize a trnad.
11.Where is the text mst prbably taken frm?
