Viewed frm dry land, the river lked beautiful. The fast-flwing waters f the Snake River were crisp and clear as they crashed ver the rcks belw. I was 16 and my parents had hired a car t drive us children arund Nrth America and Canada in the summer hlidays.
Upn ur arrival, lst in the beautiful scenery, we culdn't wait t start ur tur. Dad gt a dinghy(橡皮艇)frm smewhere. It lked a bit small fr the six f us, and we didn't have safety helmets, and were wearing adult-sized life jackets. I dn't think any f us had even seen rapids(急流)until we went dwn them that day, therwise we'd have realized hw flhardy(莽撞的)ur plan was.
The first part f the ride was pretty hair-raising and it was apparent that we had n idea what we were ding. After 20 minutes we hit a rapid and gt stuck: there was a huge rck under the surface and ur bat was letting in water. The bttm gt stuck and we were trapped in the middle f a wide, fast-mving river. Wall after wall f freezing water hit me and the iciness tk my breath away. My brther, sisters and I were screaming, Dad was shuting at us that it wuld all be OK, while Mum yelled at us t hld n. We had n time t cme up with any plan ther than t hld tight.

I felt a sense f hrrr, which was replaced by an even greater terrr when I realized I was ging dwn the rapids withut a bat. I was spun arund, bunced ff rcks and fell int water: it's what I imagine being trapped in a washing machine is like. There's n sense f up r dwn; yu just gasp(喘气)fr air when yu can.
