展开My Mther’s Diamnd
It was a beautiful August day, just weeks befre schl restarted. My mther, my brther and I were sitting in ur frnt yard, enjying the afternn shade f the big tree. My father, Carl, was als at hme, wrking in his basement ffice. Just as they passed by, the skater lst her balance and went dwn n the street, right in frnt f ur neighbr’s huse. My mther jumped up quickly and ran tward them t help the fallen skater, and my mther’s ft caught n an uneven sectin f the sidewalk. Dwn she went, injuring her knees, her palms and her chin. We came running up t her and my brther went t ask my father fr help. Meanwhile, I was checking n the skater, wh was kay.
The tw girls cntinued n their way, and my mther lay there n the sidewalk, bleeding. My father came running, and he carried my mther int the huse. He set her dwn n a kitchen chair and gt busy cleaning her wunds with a wet washclth. As they washed the wunds, my mther lked at her wedding ring n her finger, nly t find the diamnd was gne.
My brther and I ran utside t lk fr the missing diamnd. The place she fell n the sidewalk was cvered with small rcks. We had n luck. My mther went ut and searched as well, n her painful hands and knees. Many peple spent many hurs searching the area ver the next several days, all in vain. My mther’s wedding ring, althugh nt fancy, was priceless t her.
Several mnths passed. Our neighbr, Mike, was a gd friend and had a business buying and reselling cars. We bught several cars frm him ver the years because he was s gd at it. He liked wearing wrk bts and his bts were always muddy wherever he went.
