Researchers have identified tw ancient star grupings that appear t be amng the Milky Way’s earliest parts. The structures (结构) are named Shakti and Shiva. They were discvered using bservatins frm the Eurpean Space Agency’s Gaia.
Scientists wrte in a study that the structures might be the remains f tw galaxies (星系) that cnnected 12 billin years ag with the early pieces f the Milky Way. They said the discvery ffers new infrmatin abut hw ur galaxy frmed.
Led by astrnmer Khyati Malhan frm the Max Planck Institute fr Astrnmy, the study, recently published in The Astrphysical Jurnal, prbes the basic questin f galaxy frmatin and shws mre abut galaxy frmatin. The Milky Way, a large spiral galaxy spanning abut 100, 000 light-years, is prbably identified by this study.
The Eurpean Space Agency launched Gaia in 2013. It is helping t create the largest and mst cmplete three-dimensinal (三维的) map f the Milky Way. It is measuring the psitins, distances, and mvements f the stars. These infrmatin permitted researchers t find Shakti and Shiva.
This study builds upn a 2022 discvery using Gaia data, identifying the “pr ld heart” f the Milky Way, made up f stars frm its earliest perids near the center. These ancient stars, different chemically, are termed “metal-pr”, cntaining fewer heavy elements like irn, carbn, and xygen cmpared t stars elsewhere in the galaxy. These elements came frm the universe’s earliest stars, which spread them upn their death.
Malhan said researchers wuld like t track the frmatin and develpment f the Milky Way starting frm the beginning f it until present day. But he said this was difficult because the earliest perid f the galaxy tk place 11 t 12 billin years ag. Scientists say the Big Bang event started the frmatin f the universe abut 13.8 billin years ag.
    8. What are the Shakti and Shiva structures mst likely t be accrding t the text?
    A. The largest stars f the Milky Way.

Bumblebee (大黄蜂) ppulatins have declined (下降) by 90 percent in the past 20 years. The decline f the bumblebees is highly cncerning as they are significant fr ecsystems. They pllinate (授粉) flwers and crps. If their ppulatins were t cntinue t decline, crps wuld nt be able t prduce fruits and vegetables. Despite being small, they are imprtant t nature’s balance.
And nw, a new study published in the Frntiers in Bee Science has fund that the rising heat caused by glbal warming might be a reasn fr the decrease in numbers acrss the glbe. “The decline in ppulatins and ranges f several species f bumblebees may be explained by issues f verheating f the nests,” Peter Kevan f the University f Guelph in Canada and lead authr f the study said in a statement.
Kevan and his clleagues decided t take a clser lk at the facts relating t bumblebee ppulatins acrss the wrld. Kevan and the clleagues lked at 180 years f literature n the species and fund ne cmmn reasn acrss all bumblebee species that they can survive in temperatures up t 36 degrees Celsius, but the perfect temperature fr nests is between 28 t 32 degrees Celsius. They are unlikely t be able t adjust themselves t the extent that rising temperatures due t climate change require, the study reprts. While individual bees may be able t deal with increased heat better than thers, the study ntes that if nests are t ht, the grups will nt survive.
“The effect f high nest temperatures has nt been studied very much, which is surprising,” Kevan said. Similar studies have been dne n hneybees (蜜蜂), anther threatened yet highly imprtant species. This suggests further that heat stress is a majr factr in bees’ verall decline.
Althugh the studies led by Kevan have limitatins, the ptential effects fr bumblebee health and cnversatin are large and lng-term.
    12. What d we knw abut bumblebees frm paragraph 1?
    A. They have been extinct within decades in America.
    B. Their ppulatins have decreased a lt in the last tw decades.
    C. Americans are cncerned abut their living envirnment.
    D. They tend t depend n flwers and crps t survive.

    A. They raised bumblebees t bserve them.
    B. They fcused n studying individual bumblebees.
    C. They cnducted experiments n bumblebees.
    D. They studied literature n bumblebees.
    14. What is the authr’s attitude tward Kevan’s studies?
    A. Unclear.B. Supprtive.C. Dubtful.D. Uninterested.
    15. Which can be a suitable title fr the text?
    A. Big Results fr Small Bumblebees
    B. Bumblebees Prtectin Inspires Scientists
    C. The Impact f Climate Change n Hneybees
    D. Research Shws the Main Reasn f Bumblebee Decline

    B. Black hles within the Milky Way.

    13. Hw did Kevan and his cwrkers carry ut the study?
    A. They raised bumblebees t bserve them.
    B. They fcused n studying individual bumblebees.
    C. They cnducted experiments n bumblebees.
    D. They studied literature n bumblebees.
    14. What is the authr’s attitude tward Kevan’s studies?
    A. Unclear.B. Supprtive.C. Dubtful.D. Uninterested.
    15. Which can be a suitable title fr the text?
    A. Big Results fr Small Bumblebees
    B. Bumblebees Prtectin Inspires Scientists
    C. The Impact f Climate Change n Hneybees
    D. Research Shws the Main Reasn f Bumblebee Decline
    【答案】12. B 13. D 14. B 15. D
