    Stries f immigrants attract me a lt, especially the life stries f Italians wh have cme t America since the 1700s. In each f these stries I see elements f my wn stry, that f leaving my birthplace and family and creating a new life in a different culture and in a different language.
    The child f Italian immigrants and an award-winning schlar f Italian literature, in the bk My Tw Italies, Jseph Luzzi struggled t create r find his wn identity frm an early age. Even mre prblematic fr him was “which” Italy t “chse,” the ne he received frm his family, pr and linked t ld traditins and custms he finds rude and smewhat cruel, r the ne he finds in literature and art bks that shw him a cuntry with a mdern literary culture.

He tk ut all the shells frm his pcket, giving them t the shpkeeper, wh tk them and started t cunt as if he had been cunting the mney. Then he lked at Peter. Peter asked him, “Is it enugh nw?” The shpkeeper replied, “These are mre than the cst.” Saying s, he kept nly tw shells and returned the remaining and the mney. Peter put thse shells back int his pcket very happily, leaving with Shirley hlding the dll tightly.
    Seeing Peter leaving happily with his sister hlding the dll tightly, an assistant in that shp gt surprised. He asked the shpkeeper, “Sir! Yu nly charge them fr 2 shells?!” The shpkeeper said with a smile, “Fr us these are shells, but fr the by they are treasures. His lve fr his sister is the mst precius.” Watching the lvely kids until they were ut f sight, he cntinued, “When he grws up, he will remember he purchased a dll fr his sister with the shells frm a shpkeeper. He will cherish lve and warmth in life--cherish every little shining sea shell in his heart.”(196词)

Hearing this, Peter felt truly amazed and thanked the shpkeeper, wh actually wanted t thank the tw little kids, especially when he saw a big smile quickly spread ver the little girl’s inncent face. They said gdbye and left happily with the dll.

Since his bss had been in such a lw md recently that he seldm wre any smile and talked much. When the shpkeeper turned arund and nticed the assistant’s surprised lk, he said smilingly, “lvely kids, aren’t they? When I see the little by is willing t take all he has t buy a dll fr his lvely sister, it really warms my heart.” The assistant replied thughtfully, “When he grws up, he will remember he purchased a dll fr his sister with the shells frm a shpkeeper, which will surely warm his heart, t.”(209词)
