Observatins made n the Mn's surface by the Chang'e -3 and Chang'e -4 lander missins in 2013 and 2019, respectively, helped t cnfirm the accuracy f the Chang'e -1 data. The atlas team als used data frm missins such as the GRAIL and the Lunar Recnnaissance Orbiter, bth launched by NASA, and India's Chandrayaan-1 prbe.
"Cntributing t lunar science is a prfund way fr China t establish its ptential rle as a scientific pwerhuse in the decades t cme," says Mitchell, a gephysicist at the CAS Institute f Gelgy and Gephysics in Beijing. With the update d atlas, scientists will be able t better understand the histry f the Mn, find ptential lunar resurces and cnduct cmparative gelgical studies.
