    My her - Dr Nrman Bethune By Wang Lingling Nrman Bethune is ne f the mst famus heres in China. He was a Canadian dctr. He came t China t help the Chinese peple and died fr them. Nrman Bethune was brn in 1890. He became a dctr in 1916 and went t Spain in 1936 t treat the wunded sldiers during the war there. He sn realised that many peple were dying because they did nt get t hspital quickly enugh. Dr Bethune develped new ways f taking care f the sick. He invented special medical tls t use utside hspitals and clse t the fighting areas s that dctrs culd treat the wunded mre quickly. His inventins saved many lives.
    In 1938, Dr Bethune came t China and helped treat the wunded during the Anti-Japanese War. At that time, there were few dctrs, s he had t wrk very hard n his wn. His experience f treating peple in Spain was useful in China. He develped training curses fr lcal dctrs and nurses, and wrte bks s that they culd learn abut hw he treated the sick. Dr Bethune ften wrked very hard withut resting r taking care f himself. Once, he even wrked fr sixty-nine hurs withut stpping and managed t save ver a hundred lives. One day in 1939, he cut his finger during an peratin, but he cntinued his wrk withut treating it. In the end, he died f his wund. Dr Bethune’s wrk fr the Chinese peple made him a her in China. There are many bks and films abut him, and he is still remembered in bth China and Canada tday.

    wund,hurt,injure与cut的用法:wund指枪伤、刀伤、刺伤等皮肉之伤,是出血的、严重的伤,尤其指用武器有意造成的伤口、伤疤或战场上受伤,也可指人们精神上的创伤。如:The thief wunded him with a knife. 那小偷用刀刺伤了他。hurt为普通用语,既可指肉体上的伤害,也可指精神上、感情上的伤害,多指伤痛。如:I hurt my leg badly in the ftball match. 在那场足球赛中,我的腿受了重伤。injure比hurt正式,主要指意外事故中损害健康、容貌等,强调功能的损失。如:A bullet injured his left eye. 一颗子弹伤了他的左眼。cut指无意中造成的轻伤(划伤、割伤、弄伤)。如:Dn’t cut yur finger. 别切着手指。
    ill 与sick的用法:ill 和sick都有“生病的;有病的”之意,但用法并不完全相同。  ill 意为“生病的;有病的”,一般用作表语,不能作定语。如:The little child is ill. 这个小孩子生病了。// My mther feels ill. 我的妈妈感觉不舒服。sick 意为“生病的;(感觉)不适的”,既可作表语又可作定语,如:“病人”可以说a sick man,但不能说an ill man。如:She is sick in bed. 她卧病在床。(作表语)// She is lking after her sick father. 她在照顾她生病的父亲。(作定语)
    manage t d sth.,try t d sth.与try ding sth.的用法:manage t d sth.意为“设法做成某事”,强调结果,事情已经成功,相当于succeed in ding sth.。如: He managed t send the passengers t the airprt in time. 他设法把乘客及时送到了机场。try t d sth.意为“努力/设法/试图/尽力去做某事”,强调过程,能否成功不确定。如:We tried t stp him smking in bed but he wuld d it. 我们试图阻止他在床上吸烟,但他就是不听。try ding sth.意为“试着做某事”,表示抱着试试看的想法去做。如:Let’s try kncking at the back dr. Maybe he is sleeping. 咱们敲敲后门试试。可能他在睡觉。

He develped his new kind f rice in 1974. In the 1980s, he travelled arund the wrld and gave advice abut grwing rice t many peple. In 2004, he wn the Wrld Fd Prize fr his wrk. Yuan Lngping’s new rice has helped many cuntries f the wrld grw mre rice than befre. S he is called “The Father f Rice”. He has saved many peple frm hunger, and that is why he is a her.
