It’s much mre imprtant t remve bacteria frm the teeth.” These bacteria and ther micrrganisms grw inside everyne’s muth, and frm a sticky bifilm cmmnly knwn as dental plaque (牙菌斑). It is made up f arund 700 different species f bacteria, the secnd-greatest diversity in the human bdy after the gut, as well as a hst f fungi and viruses. “They are living in the sticky film stuck t the teeth and als t the sft tissues,” says Hirschfeld. “This sticky film can't be easily rinsed ff — it really needs t be manually cleaned.”
The mst imprtant place t remve it frm is nt in fact the teeth, but the gum. This is where micrbes are best able t sink the gum tissue and d damage t teeth. In fact, “brushing yur teeth” is smething f a misnmer. “Think f brushing yur gum, rather than the teeth themselves,” says Hirschfeld. “The teeth will then be brushed autmatically.”
Brushing t hard, especially with a firmer-bristled brush, can cause injury t the gums. Small tears in the sft tissue caused by verzealus brushing are an pprtunity fr bacteria t enter the bldstream. What defines us? If pressed, I wuld answer that if there is any part f me that sits at my cre, then surely it must be my mral center, my deep-seated sense f right and wrng.
And I ften feel that I’m a slightly different persn in each language I speak — mre determined in English, mre relaxed in French, and mre emtinal in Czech. Is it pssible that, alng with these differences, my mral guidelines als pint in smewhat different directins depending n the language I’m using?
In a research led by Albert Csta, vlunteers were presented with a mral dilemma knwn as the “train prblem”: Imagine that a train is charging at five peple standing n the track, unable t mve. The nly way t stp the train and spare the five peple is push anther stranger ff a ftbridge int its path. Csta and his clleagues fund that psing the dilemma in a language that vlunteers had learned as freign tngue dramatically increased their willingness t push the sacrificial persn ff the ftbridge, frm fewer than 20% respndents using their native language t abut 50% f thse using the freign ne.
In anther research cnducted by Janet Greipel, vlunteers read acts that many peple find immral, such as stries where smene cked and ate his dg after it had been Keadby car. Thse wh read the stries in a freign language perceived these actins less wrng than thse wh read them in their native tngue.
The difference in this judgment cmes dwn t tw separate and cmpeting thinking patterns — ne f these, a quick and direct feeling, and the ther, careful deliberatin abut the greatest gd fr the largest number. When we use a freign language, we uncnsciusly sink int the mre deliberate mde simply because the effrt f perating in ur n-native language activates ur cgnitive system. This is similar t findings that reading math prblems in a hard-t-read typeface (字体) makes peple less likely t make careless mistakes.

A. By carefully citing examples.B. By cllecting and listing data.
C. By cnducting experiments.D. By analyzing peple’s habits.
14. Why are “math prblems” mentined?
A. T justify a thinking pattern.B. T present a new finding.
C. T clarify the cgnitive system.D. T warn against making mistakes.
15. What’s a suitable title fr the passage?
A. Mrality. The Cre f PepleB. Languages: Insights int Judgments
C. Languages: A Shaping Pwer t MralityD. Mrality: A New Way t Learn Languages
