AI technlgy has been used in many fields, and it is nw playing an increasingly imprtant rle in matters f public interest.
A grup f students at Huazhng University f Science and Technlgy（HUST) has develped an AI system that restres (修复）ld phts f missing children. Until nw, they have been prviding
technlgical supprt fr many parents with ver 1, 000 restred phts and helped reunite (使重聚）11 missing children with their families.
The team was set up by Sheng Jianzhng three years ag, when he was a student at HUST. He first thught t restre phtgraphs f missing children when he came acrss a missing child ntice with a pr-quality pht in 2020. As he was studying digital image prcessing (数字图像处理）at schl, he decided t use his skills t help the parents restre their images.
But the system cannt be cmpleted by ne persn alne. Luckily, many like-minded students sn vlunteered t jin Sheng's prject.
After six mnths f hard wrk, they prduced an image restratin AI system that slved the prblem f unclear faces in phtgraphs. A restred image can be generated in just a few minutes. Parents can then print the high-quality images f their missing children nt T-shirts r large psters.
In many cases, the team desn't have direct cntact with the families. And smetimes the families dn't even knw the team has helped them. "But we still feel satisfied, and we are happy fr them," Sheng said.
