The Internatinal Space Statin (ISS) is a science labratry in space. It is made f many different pieces that have been added n slwly since 1998. The grup f astrnauts wrking there changes ften, but peple have been living in the ISS fr almst 18 years.
On Wednesday, NASA discvered that there was a leak in the ISS. The statin is full f air that the astrnauts can breathe. But utside the ISS, in space, there is n air. That means the pressure inside the statin is much higher. S, the ISS was like a bike tire with a tiny hle in it.
On Thursday, the astrnauts went t wrk and sn fund the leak. It was less than 2 millimeters wide. That’s abut as wide as the lead(笔芯) n a pencil that hasn’t been sharpened. The hle is in a Russian part f the statin, called the Syuz. The Syuz is the spacecraft that brught three f the astrnauts t the ISS. Luckily, the Syuz can still be used t return t Earth. When the astrnauts first fund the leak, German astrnaut Alexander Gerst did smething that seemed very natural — he cvered the hle with his thumb. Because the hle was s tiny, the astrnauts were never in any danger. But it was still imprtant t stp the leak. NASA says that the hle was prbably made by a tiny bit f a meterite(陨石) — a rck flying thrugh space. Sme peple believe the hle culd be frm a screw(螺丝) that came lse. It is als pssible that the statin was hit by a small piece f “space debris(残骸)” — tiny pieces f trash frm ther spacecraft. As mre and mre rckets and satellites are sent int space, space debris is a mre cmmn prblem.
32. What was the prblem with the ISS?
A. The air started t g ut frm the ISS.
B. The ISS was hit by a piece f space debris.
C. The pressure utside the ISS was higher than that inside.
D. The astrnauts inside the ISS had difficulty in breathing.
33. What d we knw abut the hle?
A. It was as sharp as a pencil lead.
B. It was caused by three f Russian astrnauts.
C. It had psed a great danger t the astrnauts.
D. It was s small that the thumb culd cver it.
34. What did the astrnauts use t fix the leak in the ISS?
A. A thumb and special tape.B. Special tape and clth saked in special glue.
C. A pencil lead and special tape.D. A pencil and clth saked in special glue.
35. What wuld be the best title fr the text?
A. The Danger f the Leak in the Internatinal Space Statin
B. The Internatinal Space Statin Finds the Origin f the Leak
