Accrding t new research, hwever, it’s pssible that we might be making expressing thanks mre cmplicated (复杂的) than it needs t be. In a paper published in a psychlgy magazine, researchers cmpared the effects f expressing thanks in persn, ver a vide call, and by text. While peple generally expect an in-persn thank-yu t be mst effective, what happened in daily life was quite different—sending a thank-yu by text was almst as useful and effective as expressing thanks in persn. What’s mre, texting may be a very gd chice when we feel embarrassed abut expressing ur thanks.
In ne study, 219 cllege students tk part in a gratitude activity in which they wrte abut three things they were grateful fr ver a tw-week perid. At the beginning and end f the tw weeks, these students cmpleted surveys sharing their feelings f well-being, cnnectins, depressin, lneliness, and happiness. The researchers fund that peple wh expressed gratitude increased their well-being, with nly a few differences between the different methds f gratitude expressin. Overall, vide calls were just as beneficial (有益的) as meeting in persn. Texting was a bit less effective than vide calling—it didn’t make peple feel mre cnnected and happy. Hwever, participants wh sent their thanks by text still experienced benefits: Texting imprved their well-being and reduced their lneliness.
Overall, the message is that we shuldn’t wrry abut finding just the “right” way t express ur gratitude. In fact, yu will prbably feel better sending a quick thank-yu tday than waiting fr the right time t plan an in-persn visit.
