When I first began running in high schl n the track team, it made sense t carefully clck every mile and push myself t race fr persnal bests. But as I changed frm running fr sprt t running fr amusement as an adult, I fund that tracking my wrkuts ften just ended with frustratin. And it wasn’t until my watch battery died several years ag that I first experienced the sense f calm that came with running fr the pure jy f it. I never replaced the watch battery, and that might nt be a bad thing fr my fitness gals.
This is the idea f unplugged (不插电的) running, which is gaining steam in the fitness cmmunity. And recent research has shwn that getting rid f yur running watch, especially if it’s a smartwatch r fitness tracker, culd actually imprve yur wrkut — r at least yur enjyment f running.
“Peple used t have an interest in their sprt and get enjyment ut f the sprt, but nw that’s switching t the data,” said Ein Whelan, a senir lecturer at the Natinal University f Ireland Galway. “They will cmpare themselves t peple wh are better than them, wh are running faster r running lnger. And in the end we knw that makes them feel bad. ”
Whelan als nted that peple wh are very dependent n smart watches r fitness trackers are mre likely t skip their wrkuts if the batteries n their tracking devices are dead.
In additin, there is evidence that running watch-free is beneficial fr mre than just the casual jgger. Sme prfessinals als have had success with leaving their watches at hme. Welsh runner Steve Jnes famusly set a wrld recrd at the 1984 Chicag Marathn withut wearing a watch. Mre recently, Olympic marathner Trevr Hfbauer made headlines fr winning the 2019 Canadian Marathn Champinships withut a watch.
“If yu have t much infrmatin being fed t yu in real time, it can kind f get in yur head,” Hfbauer said. “Fr me, the simpler, the better.”
24.What happened t the authr when his running watch didn’t wrk?
A.He lst the desire t keep running every day.
B.He experienced running as a really fun activity.
C.He was at a lss hw t replace the watch battery.
D.He had great difficulty achieving his fitness gals.
25.What des Ein Whelan say abut fitness tracking watches?
A.They can enrich the wearers’ scial life.
B.The data prvided by them is unreliable.
C.The way peple use them is prper.
D.They can lead t harmful cnsequences.
26.Why des the authr mentin Trevr Hfbauer in paragraph 5?
    A.T shw the ppularity f running watch-free.
B.T encurage peple t becme prfessinal runners.
C.T prve the psitive effects f running watch-free.
    D.T present prfessinals’ views n running watch-free.
27.What is the main idea f the text?
A.It’s time t take ff yur running watch.
B.Unplugged running actually has tw sides.
C.Cmparing with thers shuld be avided.
D.Racing fr persnal bests requires simplicity.
    【答案】24.B 25.D 26.C 27.A
根据文章第一段中“And it wasn’t until my watch battery died several years ag that I first experienced the sense f calm that came with running fr the pure jy f it. I never replaced the watch battery, and that might nt be a bad thing fr my fitness gals.
根据第三段中的““They will cmpare themselves t peple wh are better than them, wh are running faster r running lnger. And in the end we knw that makes them feel bad. ” (“他们会将自己与比他们更好的人进行比较,他们跑得更快或跑得更久。最后,我们知道这会让他们感到难过。”)”及第四段“Whelan als nted that peple wh are very dependent n smart watches r fitness trackers are mre likely t skip their wrkuts if the batteries n their tracking devices are dead. (惠兰还指出,如果跟踪设备上的电池没电了,那些非常依赖智能手表或健身追踪器的人更有可能跳过锻炼。)”可知,运动追踪手表会到来相互攀比的问题,会让运动者感觉很糟糕,对运动手表的过去依赖会让人们失去内在的运动动力,可推知,运动手表会导致不良后果,故选D项。
26.推理判断题。根据文章第五段“In additin, there is evidence that running watch-free is beneficial fr mre than just the casual jgger.

In his 1936 wrk Hw t Win Friends and Influence Peple, Dale Carnegie wrte: “I have cme t the cnclusin that there is nly ne way t get the best f an argument — and that is t avid it.” This distaste fr arguments is cmmn, but it depends n a mistaken view f arguments that causes prblems fr ur persnal and scial lives — and in many ways misses the pint f arguing in the first place.
Carnegie wuld be right if arguments were fights, which is hw we ften think f them. Like physical fights, verbal (言语的) fights can leave bth sides bldied. Even when yu win, yu end up n better ff. Yu wuld be feeling almst as bad if arguments were even just cmpetitins — like, say, tennis turnaments. Pairs f ppnents hit the ball back and frth until ne winner cmes ut frm all wh entered. Everybdy else lses. This kind f thinking explains why s many peple try t avid arguments.
Hwever, there are ways t win an argument every time. When yu state yur psitin, frmulate (阐述) an argument fr what yu claim and hnestly ask yurself whether yur argument is any gd. When yu talk with smene wh takes a stand, ask them t give yu a reasn fr their view and spell ut their argument fully. Assess its strength and weakness. Raise bjectins (异议) and listen carefully t their replies. This methd will require effrt, but practice will make yu better at it.
These tls can help yu win every argument — nt in the unhelpful sense f beating yur ppnents but in the better sense f learning abut what divides peple, learning why they disagree with us and learning t talk and wrk tgether with them. If we readjust ur view f arguments — frm a verbal fight r tennis game t a reasned exchange thrugh which we all gain respect and understanding frm each ther — then we change the very nature f what it means t “win” an argument.
28.What is the authr’s attitude tward Carnegie’s understanding f argument?
    A.Critical.B.Supprtive.C.Tlerant.D.Uncertain.
29.Why d many peple try t avid arguments?
A.They lack debating skills.B.They may feel bad even if they win.
C.They fear being ignred.D.They are nt cnfident in themselves.
30.What des the underlined phrase “spell ut” in paragraph 3 prbably mean?
    A.Defend.B.Explain.C.Cnclude.D.Repeat.
31.What is the key t “winning” an argument accrding t the authr?
    A.Sense f lgic.B.Slid supprting evidence.
    C.Prper manners.D.Understanding frm bth sides.
    【答案】28.A 29.B 30.B 31.D

“Have yu decided n yur majr?” my parents inquired.
“Biengineering, f curse.” I respnded withut the slightest hesitatin.
I entered this wrld with Pland syndrme, a disease that prevented the frmatin f my right arm and pectral muscle(s 胸肌). My parents, believing that playing with Leg culd enhance my dexterity(灵巧), gifted me my first kit when I was five. Struggling t piece the cmpnents tgether, I crafted my first Leg wrk – a car. As I gt lder, I grew bsessed with Leg Technic, a mre advanced range, and hw t use it t build mre delicate structures. By the age f nine, I had fashined my first prsthetic arm(义肢)using Leg Technic – a simple bx that perfectly accmmdated my right arm.
This early creatin sparked my drive fr further explratin. Years later, I develped anther prsthetic arm that I called the MK-1, which had fingers, a mtr, a pressure sensr, a mvable elbw jint, and a grabber capable f picking things up.
Befre cnstructing it, I had already decided against traditinal prsthetics. Nt because they were ineffective, but because playing with Leg did significantly imprve my dexterity, helping me adapt t my cnditin. Hwever, a mre frustrating reasn was that prsthetics were t expensive. My parents and I had lked int getting ne a few years earlier, nly t be discuraged by the prhibitive price. S, I cncluded that I might nt need ne because I was managing well withut. Nevertheless, the jy f creating prsthetics with Leg remained, and I cntinued making them purely fr the fun f it.
As the years passed, my creatins evlved frm MK-1 t the mre advanced and cmfrtable MK-V. It featured a cntrl unit that culd send and receive rders frm sensrs n the arm t the mtrs, with cables that cntract like muscles.
One day, a cuple with their eight-year-ld sn, wh lst bth arms in an accident, reached ut t me after learning abut my creatins. Shrt f mney, they culdn’t affrd well-functining prsthetics. “Daniel,” the father earnestly asked, “we were wndering if yu culd pssibly help build a set f prsthetics fr ur sn.”
