The cuple have a furniture (家具) farm in Derbyshire where they are grwing 250 chairs, 100 lamps and 50 tables. It is their answer t what they see as the inefficient (无效率) prcess f cutting dwn mature trees t create furniture.

The 44-ycar-ld began experimenting in 2006. In 2012, Gavin and Alice set up the cmpany Full Grwn. Within several years, the cuple develped the mst effective way t shape a tree withut limiting its grwth. Liu is amng the increasing number f Chinese peple wh enjy purchasing near-expired fd at much cheaper prices. Accrding t the latest reprt by iiMedia Research, the near-expired fd industry had a market size f ver 30 billin yuan in 2020. Yung cnsumers aged between 26 and 35 accunted fr 47.8 percent.
Unlike the traditinal thinking that buying such gds is embarrassing, mre and mre yung peple regard it as a kind f sustainable cnsumptin that can help reduce fd waste.
“I dn’t care much abut the date as lng as I can eat it befre its expiry. It meets my demand while saving resurces and prtecting the envirnment, which is a gd thing,” Wu Lin, a 19-year-ld cllege student and a fan f near-expired fd, tld Xinhua.
Indeed, fd waste is a great challenge fr China and ther cuntries. Accrding t a 2020 reprt frm the Natinal Peple’s Cngress, abut 18 billin kilgrams f fd is wasted every year in China’s urban catering industry (餐饮业).
“As mre Chinese peple chse t buy near-expired fd, the fd waste will be reduced,” said Liu.
