根据第一段中的“The new inventin, a sensr that allws cncrete t“talk”, decreases cnstructin time and hw ften cncrete pavement (路面) needs repairs while als imprving the rad’s sustainability and cutting its carbn ftprint.(这项新发明是一种传感器,它可以让混凝土“说话”,减少施工时间和混凝土路面需要维修的频率,同时提高道路的可持续性,减少碳足迹)”可知,这项新发明减少了道路维修。故选C。
根据第二段““Traffic jams caused by repairs have wasted 4 billin hurs and 3 billin gallns f gas, n a yearly basis. This is mainly due t insufficient knwledge and understanding f cncrete’s strength levels,” said Luna Lu, wh has been leading develpment f the sensr since 2017. “Fr instance, we dn’t knw when cncrete will reach the right strength needed t accmmdate traffic lads just after cnstructin. The cncrete may be put int use t early, leading t frequent repairing,” she added.(“每年维修造成的交通堵塞浪费了40亿小时和30亿加仑的汽油。 混凝土可能过早投入使用,导致频繁维修,”她补充道)”结合第一段的“The new inventin, a sensr that allws cncrete t“talk”, decreases cnstructin time and hw ften cncrete pavement (路面) needs repairs while als imprving the rad’s sustainability and cutting its carbn ftprint.(这项新发明是一种传感器,它可以让混凝土“说话”,减少施工时间和混凝土路面需要维修的频率,同时提高道路的可持续性,减少碳足迹)”可知,第二段主要论述了发明传感器的必要性。故选D。
