Henry Cavendish was brn in Nice, France, n Octber 10, 1731, the ldest sn f Lrd Charles Cavendish and Lady Anne Grey, wh died a few years after Henry was brn. As a yuth he attended Dr. Newcmb's Academy in Hackney, England. He entered Peterhuse, Cambridge, in 1749, but left after three years withut taking a degree.
Cavendish returned t Lndn, England t live with his father. There, Cavendish built himself a labratry and wrkshp. When his father died in 1783, Cavendish mved the labratry t Clapham Cmmn, where he als lived. He never married and was s reserved that there is little recrd f his having any scial life except ccasinal meetings with scientific friends.
During his lifetime, Cavendish made striking discveries in chemistry, mainly between1766 and 1788, and in electricity, between 1771 and 1788.
