I’m nw at a special university where 46 speech and hearing impaired (受损) students graduate each year. Every mrning, I made it a practice f setting the intentin (意图) in my heart f “May I be a tl fr them t get what they need right nw?”.
Tday, ne girl came and sat dwn. I started with hw we usually d. She can speak but cannt hear and lip-read. I asked ne questin, and she went n fr 10 minutes straight, and in Tamil (泰米尔语). I understd a cuple f wrds here and there, s I understd that she was nt saying anything cnnected with what I asked. I just kept n listening t her withut speaking a wrd. He believes rbts will d the main jb f transferring infrmatin and teachers will be like assistants. Intelligent rbts will read students’ faces, mvements and maybe even brain signals. Then they will transfer the infrmatin t each student. It’s nt a ppular pinin and it’s unlikely rbts will ever have empathy (共情) and the ability t really cnnect with humans like anther human can.
One thing is certain, thugh. A rbt teacher is better than n teacher at all. In sme parts f the wrld, there aren’t enugh teachers and 9—16 percent f children under the age f 14 dn’t g t schl. Teachers all ver the wrld are leaving because it is a difficult and lwer-paid jb and they feel verwrked. That prblem culd be partly slved by rbts.
Perhaps the questin is nt “Will rbts replace teachers?” but “Hw can rbts help teachers?”. Teachers waste a lt f time ding nn-teaching wrk, including mre than 11 hurs a week marking hmewrk. If rbts culd cut the time teachers spend marking hmewrk and writing reprts, teachers wuld have mre time and energy fr the parts f the jb humans d best.
