Farnswrth had desired t be an inventr since the age f six. Farnswrth was just 14 when he had the idea f televisin. On August 26,1930, abut a decade after first having the idea that was the basis f his inventin, he received the patent (专利) n the electrnic televisin system. By the end f his life, he had held mre than 300 patents.
Farnswrth wasn't the first persn t dream up televisin, but he was the first persn t find a way t make it wrk withut a mechanical aspect. The biggest prblem that inventrs faced was hw t transmit image data. Farnswrth's central innvatin was t imagine a way f ding it that relied n electrnic technlgy alne, and s wuldn't be slwed dwn by the abilities f a mechanical image-transmitting system.
Farnswrth dreamed up his idea while he was driving a hrse-drawn harrw (耙) n the family's new farm in Idah. As he was plwing (犁) a ptat field in straight, parallel (平行的) lines, he saw televisin. He imagined a system that wuld break an image int hrizntal (水平的) lines and put thse lines back tgether int a picture at the ther end. In 1927, Phil and his wife Elma watched as he made the first transmissin: A hrizntal line was transmitted t a receiver in the next rm. Tw years after that first transmissin, Farnswrth sent an image f Elma and her brther, making her the first wman n TV.
Farnswrth thught his inventin had realistic prspects. "If we were able t see peple in ther cuntries and learn abut ur differences, why wuld there be any misunderstandings? "he asked. "War wuld be a thing f the past. "
4.Which f the fllwing is TRUE accrding t the passage?
A.Farnswrth had the idea f inventing the televisin since he was six.
B.Elma and her brther were n TV tgether in 1929.

D.Hw t imprve the abilities f the mechanical image-transmitting system.

Accrding t pineering research by Dr. Albert Mehrabian, nly 7 percent f the meaning frm human cmmunicatin cmes frm the actual spken wrds used. An additinal 38 percent cmes frm peple's tne f vice, while a large 55 percent cmes frm bdy language.
Researchers have lng identified that certain kinds f bdy mvements and facial expressins can cmmunicate infrmatin abut the emtins we happen t be experiencing at the time. But are these emtinal signals shaped by different cultures r are they universal t all humans?
A new research article published in the jurnal Emtin attempts t answer this questin thrugh a crss-cultural study. The researchers traveled t Ratanakiri, Cambdia t study members f a distant Kreung hill tribe (部落) . Living in Cambdia's highlands, the Kreung are still largely separated frm the utside wrld except fr ccasinal visitrs. They have yet t be assimilated (同化) as many ther scieties have been.
In the study, a set f vides were prepared featuring an American wman, displaying three psitive emtins (happiness, lve and pride) and three negative emtins (anger, fear and sadness) using bdy language alne. The effectiveness f these vides was tested using thirty-fur American participants. The vides were then presented t twenty-six Kreung individuals (eleven f whm were female). They were asked t describe the emtins being displayed in their wn wrds.
Results shwed that the Kreung participants tended t be quite accurate in guessing which emtins were being presented. The verall accuracy rate was sixty-tw percent thugh their accuracy in detecting specific emtins such as anger and happiness was far higher. Overall, there was n significant discrepancy between Kreung and American raters in detecting emtins, thugh American participants did much better in detecting pride and lve.
Still, the study des suggest that bdy mvements can express emtins such as anger, fear, sadness and lve even t individuals belnging t different cultures. Emtinal signals reflect basic human needs and desires that all humans share. Learning mre abut hw basic bilgy and scial factrs shape the way we cmmunicate may well be essential in helping t understand urselves better.

B.They make a living by develping turism.
C.They enjy a relatively unaffected culture.

9.Hw des the writer describe the results f the study in Paragraph 5
    A.By using pictures.B.By telling stries.
    C.By analyzing causes.D.By making cmparisns.
10.What des the underlined wrd "discrepancy" in paragraph 5 prbably mean?
    A.Difference.B.Cmmunicatin.C.Relatin.D.Balance.
11.What did the researchers cnclude frm the study?

B.Emtinal bdy language may g beynd culture.
C.Humans share all the emtinal bdy mvements.
D.Bilgy and scial factrs affect basic human needs and desires.
The increase in primate (灵长类动物) ecturism is causing stress-related behavirs in mnkeys, accrding t a new study.
The study, led by the University f Prtsmuth, lked at the impact f a single engine mtr bat appraching a cmmunity f prbscis mnkeys (长鼻猴) . Thse mnkeys are unusual with their very lng nses, which makes them appealing t turists. And many f the bats carrying the turists apprach the primates quickly and ludly, ften reaching the river banks just a few meters away frm the wildlife.
The researchers cnducted the experiment by appraching the mnkeys in a mtr bat with different speeds and travel distances—fast-clse (appraching the mnkeys fr 10 secnds when 40 meters away at a speed f 14.4 km/hr) , slw-clse (appraching the mnkey fr 40 secnds when 40 meters away at a speed f 3.6 km/hr) , and slw-far cnditins (appraching the mnkeys fr 20 secnds when 100 meters away, at a speed f 3.6 km/hr) .
The results shwed that the mnkeys displayed stress-related behavirs fr lnger in the fast-clse and slw-clse cnditins and als reduced feeding as a result f the bat appraching in the fast-clse cnditin. Once the bat started t apprach, the prbscis mnkeys shwed repeated scratching (挠) and ften mved quickly backwards t hide in the trees. This culd ptentially cause the mnkeys t leave their safe sleeping sites and t g deep int the frest as it gets dark, where they culd face a higher risk f predatin (捕食行为) .
"Cllectively, ur findings suggest that the apprach f a single mtr bat led t stress in prbscis mnkeys when they were apprached as clsely as 60 meters frm the ther side f the river, regardless f the speed f apprach," said Dr Marina Davila-Rss, lead authr f the study.
The researchers thus prpse that guidelines fr primate turism in the riverside areas shuld include an apprach speed f n mre than 4 km/hr within 100 meters f the prbscis mnkeys. They suggest it is als imprtant t keep a distance, preferably n clser than 60 meters away, frm the mnkeys.
"Such infrmatin might be helpful fr turists, allwing them t mdify (修改) their behavirs when visiting the primates and when encuraging guides t fllw the guidelines, "Dr Davila-Rss added.
12.What did the researchers' experiment shw abut prbscis mnkeys?
A.They fund the slw-clse cnditin mst stressful.
B.They tended t g hunting when faced with danger.
C.They lst their sense f safety at the sund f mtrbats.
D.They lst their way very easily at the sight f mtrbats.
    13.What d the researchers advise turists t d?
A.T apprach prbscis mnkeys less frequently.
B.T avid getting t clse t prbscis mnkeys.
C.T ask guides fr mre infrmatin abut prbscis mnkeys.
D.T behave themselves while trying t feed prbscis mnkeys.
14.Which f the fllwing may be the writer's attitude twards primate ecturism?
    A.Cncerns.B.Cnfidence.C.Disapprval.D.Disinterest.
15.What can be the best title f the text?
    A.Primate Ecturism:a better understanding f primates

    C.Primate Ecturism:the cnservatin f primates
    D.Primate Ecturism:a negative effect n primate behavir
