My name is Arianna Traviglia and I’m a senir cultural and heritage researcher at the Centre fr Cultural Heritage Technlgy at the Italian Institute f Technlgy in Gena, Italy.
As head f the team, I encurage the develpment f new technlgies t maintain and prtect imprtant archaelgical (考古学的) findings. Right nw, I am wrking in the field f Pmpeii, an ancient Rman city which was destryed and buried under 13 t 20 feet f ash and small rcks during a vlcanic eruptin in 79 AD. With the help f a rbt, I try t carefully recnstruct (重建) the city’s 2,000-year-ld brken fresces (壁画). The prject is called RePAIR.
There are thusands f fresc pieces in Pmpeii, and it was nearly impssible fr a human t recnstruct all the irregular pieces int big, meaningful paintings in the past. Technlgy nw allws us t d it-the rbt we use is running by artificial intelligence (AI). As it examines a piece, it searches a database fr a match, and then sends the data back t its hands t fit matching pieces tgether, saving a lt f hurs. Its sft human-like arms and hands allw it t hld and examine the easily brken pieces withut damaging them. The technlgy is likely t allw many museums arund the wrld t recnstruct large-scale brken fresces r similar bjects in the future.
In RePAIR, I’m studying the hyperspectral (高光谱的) images f the fresc pieces in strage and cmparing them with the paintings n the walls f the Huse f the Painters at Wrk, part f a building in Pmpeii. By cmparing the resemblances in the images, we will be able t wrk ut whether the brken pieces were frm the same wall.
I studied histry and archaelgy in cllege. Archaelgy helps us understand where we cme frm, and technlgy enriches that explratin. I’m glad I’m a translatr f the tw wrlds. My mind runs wild when I think abut the exciting Rman life that we are still missing because Pmpeii’s fresces were damaged and haven’t been recnstructed.
    12. What is the authr mainly respnsible fr nw?
    A. Repairing the damaged archaelgical findings.B. Designing rbts used fr archaelgy.
    C. Discvering ancient cities hidden beneath the grund.D. Reprting n recent studies f histrical ruins.
    13. What is mentined abut the rbt used in the prject?
A It may cause further damage t artwrks.B. It takes mre time t the examine the artwrks.
    C. It desn’t need human peratrs.D. It has already been widely used in museums.
    14. What des the underlined wrd “resemblances” in Paragraph4 mean?

    15. Hw des the authr find her wrk in RePAIR?

My name is Arianna Traviglia and I’m a senir cultural and heritage researcher at the Centre fr Cultural Heritage Technlgy at the Italian Institute f Technlgy in Gena, Italy.
As head f the team, I encurage the develpment f new technlgies t maintain and prtect imprtant archaelgical (考古学的) findings. Right nw, I am wrking in the field f Pmpeii, an ancient Rman city which was destryed and buried under 13 t 20 feet f ash and small rcks during a vlcanic eruptin in 79 AD. By cmparing the resemblances in the images, we will be able t wrk ut whether the brken pieces were frm the same wall.
