Five hurs later, it was raining steadily and the wind was cld. Several cld and injured runners had been transprted past me, and I began t panic. The image f Sue, alne and cld, ff the rad smewhere, made me sick with wrry. The fast and strng cmpetitrs had finished lng ag, and runners were becming fewer and fewer. Nw I culd nt see anyne in either directin.
    Almst all f the cars alng the marathn rute had left, and sme nrmal traffic was beginning. I was able t drive directly up the race rute. There were still n runners in view after driving almst tw miles. Then I went arund a bend in the rad and sptted tw runners running up ahead.
