It was Dad’s birthday, and fr nce in his life, Jeremiah was cking smething cmplicated: spaghetti with hmemade sauce (酱). He’d eaten it a millin times, s he knew mst f the ingredients. “Tmates, nins, garlic, beef,” he thught, lking thrugh the fridge. They had everything except the beef. N prblem—they’d g vegetarian tnight.
Jeremiah cut up the vegetables with Dad’s special knife and put them int the pt. Then he turned t Dad’s spice(香料) cllectin. He picked a few familiar nes and put them in. When yu’re having a hard time with smething, it’s natural t turn t thers fr help. Getting help sunds simple, but it’s nt always easy t d. Smetimes certain beliefs r ways f thinking can make it hard t ask fr help. Here are sme kinds f attitudes that can stand in the way and ideas n hw t get past them.
Sme peple believe that needing help is a sign f weakness. Actually, it’s a sign f strength, nt weakness. Yu knw what yu need and yu shuldn’t be afraid t reach ut fr it. Once a by tld me he wanted t ask his cach hw t imprve his basketball skills, but he was afraid that his cach might think he shuldn’t be n the team. In fact, when he asked his cach fr help, his cach thught he was practicing hard.
Sme ther peple think they dn’t deserve(应该得到) help r supprt. Everyne needs help nw and then. Accepting help can strengthen friendships and relatinships. Everyne feels gd when they can supprt a friend. Fr example, if yu want t find ut hw Katy slves prblems with her parents, yu shuld ask Katy if she has time t talk and tell her hw imprtant her viewpint is, instead f wrrying that Katy is t busy t help yu. When yu ask fr help, chse smene wh listens and cares, nt smene wh judges r criticizes yu. If yu get refused, it's nt because f yu, but the ther persn. S tell yurself: If Katy says n, she might nt be ready t talk abut her wn experiences.
Anther wrng attitude is waiting fr smene else t make the first mve. It’s nt always easy fr ther peple t see when yu need help. Maybe yu’re putting n a cheerful face t hide the prblem. Dn’t wait fr smene t read yur mind. Yu have t ask.
Because it can be hard t reach ut fr help, dn't hesitate(犹豫) t ffer supprt t anther persn if yu think he r she needs it. Giving and receiving help are great life skills t learn. They help us imprve ur abilities t understand ther peple.

This high schl term was suppsed t be easier. That is the thught in my mind —after all, this is the first term that I’m taking less than 20 credits(学分), and I’m enjying all f my classes. Hwever, this term has felt the mst difficult and my grades are much wrse than they were when I was taking tw mre classes.
I culdn’t blame(怪罪) it n the fact that I’ve been busy wrking in several schl clubs and practicing fr a schl musical several times a week. Actually, it is imprtant that I dn’t verlk(忽视) that because it wuldn’t be fair t myself t say it desn’t play a part in my lw grades. Hwever, it’s clearly nt the nly reasn. In fact, study has never been easy fr me.
I thught that putting in mre effrt wuld change things, but it hasn’t. The exam I studied fr hurs n cmes back a failure. I fall asleep while wrking n hmewrk and frget t hand it in. I sit in class taking lts f ntes, and when I lk back at them t d my hmewrk, it all reads as gibberish. I start t realize that maybe sme f the wrk I d is just hard.
I’m learning that it’s kay nt l0 be the best at the wrk that yu d. When yu’re used t being naturally gd, it’s hard t realize that thrwing the same amunt f effrt at smething that is mre difficult wn’t just autmatically(自动地) wrk. Hwever, we shuldn’t feel bad abut that. Even thugh we’re here fr learning, there are s many things t spend ur time n. I think f the things I want as all having a price, and the amunt that I wuld like t pay at any given time changes, as des the price. It’s nt t say that yu shuld stp wrking hard, but it’s gd t keep in mind that smetimes the price just might be t high fr yu at a given time.
Yu dn’t have t d everything perfectly, even if it lks easy, and yu’re allwed t deal with knwledge that just desn’t make sense t yu. This is the time t learn hw t keep n keeping n. We will be the best f urselves nce we learn that being ur best isn’t a precnditin t learning.

A. T take mre classes and get better grades.

33. The writer wuld prbably agree ________.
A. we shuldn’t take part in schl activities
B. we shuld perfrm perfectly when ur wrk is easy
C we shuldn’t study things that dn’t make sense t us
D. we shuld knw hw t keep ging in the face f challenges

Clud Frests
In the Americas, Asia, and Africa, there's a special kind f frest—the clud frest. Clud frests are usually fund frm 500 meters t 4,000 meters abve sea level in the cluds n the slpes (斜坡)f muntains. They experience rainfall, but they als get water straight frm the air. The water is unplluted, and mves thrugh the grund int streams and then rivers.
Clud frests are very imprtant t bth peple wh live nearby and the animals and plants living there. They prvide water t nearby villages and cities. Peple drink the water, use it fr cking, and irrigate (灌溉) their farm fields with it. In Kenya, peple even use water frm clud frests t prduce electricity. Althugh clud frests nly make up 2.5 percent f the wrld's rainfrests, they are als hme t many animals and plants.
Unfrtunately, clud frests nw face many prblems. Lcal pr peple clear the clud frests. They cut dwn trees t grw fd and use the wd t heat their hmes and ck. Building rads als badly harms the clud frests. Once clud frests are cleared, the clud cver, which is imprtant and necessary t the grwth f these frests, ges away. Anther bigger wrry is that the temperature increases gradually. If wrld temperatures rise, clud frests will have t mve up t a higher place where the temperatures are cler. But sme clud frests n muntain tps with nwhere t climb will die ut.
Scientists fear we might lse clud frests, alng with the water and ther services they prvide. Sme gvernments have taken actins t prtect clud frests. They make laws against cutting dwn trees in the clud frests. They prvide the lcal peple with ther ways t get fd and energy. They als educate the lcal peple n hw clud frests prvide fresh water and what will happen when they are cleared.
Clud frests are t valuable t lse. We must save them—plus the animals and plants they supprt—befre it's t late.
