The peple were cut ff frm the ties that make life meaningful.
Is it safe t say then that ur lives after retirement will likely feel aimless? But after I spke t a Prtuguese-Chinese man, I thught that this wasn’t necessarily s. At the age f 90, he displayed a surprisingly strng sense f cntrl ver his life. His liveliness was exceptinal amng the elderly ppulatin in the hme. He had spent his life either traveling arund the wrld as a backpacker, r wrking hard in Singapre t save up fr his trips. He had made it a rule t learn freign languages, exercise and eat healthily—smething he cntinued t d during his stay in the nursing hme.
While he spke t me abut hw his time in Lndn had shaped his view f cultural difference, I lked int his eyes. I knew that this was the kind f cntrl ver life that I wanted fr myself.
