状语从句（1）：时间状语从句
一、when, while, befre, after, as sn as, since, until引导的时间状语从句
在复合句中，如作状语的是一个从句，该从句被称为状语从句。状语从句包括：时间状语从句、地点状语从句、原因状语从句、条件状语从句、目的状语从句、结果状语从句、让步状语从句、比较状语从句和方式状语从句九种。本模块主要学习时间状语从句。
用从句来表达一件事情或一个行为发生的时间，这个从句就叫做时间状语从句。时间状语从句常用引导词有when, while, befre, after, as sn as, since, until等。
1. when引导的时间状语从句。
when意为“当……时”，既可指时间点，也可指时间段；从句的谓语动词可以是延续性动词，也可以是瞬间性动词；when从句的动作可与主句的动作同时发生，也可先于主句的动作；并且when有时意为“就在那时”。如：
When I gt hme, he was watching TV. 当我到家的时候，他正在看电视。
I was abut t g ut when the telephne rang. 我刚要出门，就在那时电话铃响了。
2. while引导的时间状语从句。
while只能指时间段，而不能指时间点；从句的动作或与主句的动作同时发生，或主句的动作是在从句动作的过程中发生的；从句中的动词必须是表示延续性动作或状态的动词。如：
While he was waiting fr a bus, he was reading a newspaper. 他一边等车一般看报。
He visited a lt f places while he was traveling. 他在旅途中参观了许多地方。
■when和while 的区别：
◆when与while 都意为“当……的时候”。when 引导的时间状语从句，谓语动词既可以是持续性的，也可以是终止性的；而while引导的时间状语从句，谓语动词只能是持续性的，并且常用进行时态。试比较：
When he wke up, it was eight ’clck. √ While he wke up, it was eight ’clck. ×
When I was waiting fr a bus, I met her. √ While I was waiting fr a bus, I met her. √
3. befre/after引导的时间状语从句。
befre意为“在……之前/之后”，表示主句的动作发生在从句之前/之后，如果主句是一般将来时时，从句只能用一般现在时态。如：
I wn’t tell yu th e truth befre he cmes back. 他回来之前我是不会告诉你事实的。
After she finished the wrk, she went t have sup per. 她完成工作后去吃晚饭了。
4. as sn as引导的时间状语从句。
as sn as意为“一……就”，表示从句的动作一发生主句的动作就发生，如果主句是将来时，从句只能用一般现在时。如：
I will call yu as sn as I arrive hme. 我一到家就给你打电话。
Mther became unhappy as sn as I mentined his name.我一提到他的名字，母亲就变得很不开心。
5. since引导的时间状语从句。
since可引导时间状语从句，意为“自从……的时候起；从此；从……以来；……以后”等。
①若since引导的状语从句的谓语动词是终止性动词(如g, cme, leave, start, begin等)的过去时, 则从句表示的时间是“从该动作开始的那一时刻起”。这是最常见的一种用法。如：
He has studied very hard since he came t ur schl. 自从来到我们学校，他学习就非常努力。
②若since引导的状语从句的谓语动词是持续性动词或表示状态的静态动词(如live, stay, study, learn, smke, be等)的过去时，则从句表示的时间是“从该动作或状态的完成或结束时算起”。如：
I haven’t h eard frm him since he lived here. 从他不住这儿起， 我一直没有收到他的信。
I haven’t eaten snakes since I was a student at schl.=I haven’t eaten snakes since I left schl. 自从我毕业后就一直没吃过蛇。
6. until (till)引导的时间状语从句。
until/till意为“直到”，两者通常可以互换；主句是肯定句时，谓语动词常与延续性动词连用，意为“到……为止”；主句是否定句时，谓语动词常与瞬间动词连用，意为“直到……才”，这时till 和until可与befre替换；如果主句是一般将来时时，从句只能用一般现在时态。如：
I’ll stay here until/till yu cme back. 我会待在这里，直到你回来。
He didn’t g hme until/till he finished his hmewrk. 他直到做完作业才回家。
二、时间状语从句时态的呼应和从句的位置
1. 时态的呼应：一般来讲，复合句都要遵循主、从句时态呼应规律。即主句用现在时，从句也用现在时；主句用过去时，从句也要用过去的某种时态。
2. 主从句的位置：通常从句可位于主句之前，也可位于主句之后。但是从句在前时，主、从句之间必须用逗号隔开。
