Runners wh wear shes usually cme dwn their heel first. That puts great frce n the back f the ft. But the study fund that bareft runners generally land n the frnt r middle f their ft. That way they ease int their landing and avid striking their heel.
Harvard’s Daniel Lieberman led the study. He says the way mst running shes are designed may explain why thse wh wear them land n their heel. The heel f the she is bigger and heavier than ther parts f the she, s it wuld seem mre likely t cme dwn first. Als, the heel generally has thick material under it t sften landings.
But the researchers d nt suggest that runners immediately start running bareft. They say it takes sme training. And there can be risks, like running when yur feet are t cld t feel if yu get injured.
The study was partly supprted by Vibram, which makes a kind f ftwear that it says is like running bareft. The findings have gtten a lt f attentin. But the researchers say there are many prblems in the way the press has reprted in their paper. S they have tried t explain their findings n a Harvard Website.

Mvies cme in the mail and the family watch them thrughut the week befre sending them back and rdering new nes. Then, fast frward t 2008, and yu have started t watch TV shws n Netflix’s new platfrm.

Hwever, statistics shw a grwing frustratin(失望) amng cnsumers. With s many ptins, they find it harder than ever t make a decisin n what t pick.
Nt nly des the versaturatin f streaming result in cnfusing navigatin, it als creates a financial burden fr the cnsumers. Let’s say if yu want t watch Stranger Things , The Handmaid’s Tale , and Game f Thrnes , which belng t three different services, yu wuld have t pay nearly $50 a mnth t access all three f thse services, meaning it’s nt cheaper, and ptentially mre expensive, than cable.
Peple cut their crds and went the streaming rute because it was simpler and cheaper. Nw, it’s just as incnvenient and difficult as cable was, if nt mre s, and unless yu’re limiting yurself t ne service, it’s nt cheaper. Streaming will survive because we’re in a Glden Age f Media and because each service is able t create high-quality riginals. But Glden Ages dn’t last, and bubbles tend t burst. Until the inevitable(不可避免) day when sme prduct r service prves streaming ut f date, we must suffer the chices in frnt f us. The next time yu are scrlling thrugh Netflix, Hulu, r whatever, and the verchice is killing yu, maybe yu shuld just g pick up a bk instead.

    Discvered by Amateurs

In January, 2011, Kathryn Gray, wh ften studied stars, was lking at recent pictures f uter space and cmparing them t pictures taken years earlier. The pictures were just thusands f tiny spts f light, but Gray sptted a star that lked different in the recent pictures. Culd it pssibly be a supernva (超新星)? Usually a supernva is brighter, and it becmes visible thrugh a telescpe due t the brightness. Later Gray’s discvery was cnfirmed, and she became the yungest persn t discver a supernva.
Thrughut histry, imprtant discveries in astrnmy have been made by amateurs. An early example is William Herschel, wh discvered Uranus in 1781. Uranus had been bserved befre, but expert astrnmers thught it didn’t belng t ur slar system. When Herschel saw it with a telescpe he had designed and built himself, he realized that it was rbiting the sun. This meant that Uranus was a planet. And s, the map f ur night sky was changed frever.
Then in 1930, a majr discvery was made by a 24-year-ld man, a farmer’s sn, with n cllege educatin r frmal training in astrnmy. Clyde Tmbaugh had built a hmemade telescpe using instructins frm an article in a by’s magazine. He used t draw detailed pictures f the surfaces f Mars and Jupiter. He sent the pictures t Dr. V. M. Slipher at the Lwell Observatry, wh was s impressed and ffered him a jb n his team. Within a year, Tmbaugh discvered a ninth planet, Plut. It was regarded as a planet fr 76 years, but scientists decided in 2006 that Plut didn’t meet all f the criteria fr a true planet. It was then cnsidered t be a dwarf planet.
Jhn Dbsn is anther influential amateur astrnmer because he enabled s many thers t take up astrnmy as a hbby. In 1956, after cnstant attempts, he built a pwerful telescpe ut f lw-cst materials, such as paper tubes used in cnstructin. With affrdable tls like Dbsn’s telescpe, mre amateurs tday have the technlgy that is needed t make discveries f their wn.

    41. Why did Clyde Tmbaugh get a jb at the Lwell Observatry?
    42. Please decide which part is false in the fllwing statement, then underline it and explain why.
The fur amateur astrnmers were all interested in astrnmy and did sme research, s they finally made discveries f their wn.

G 36. F 37. D 38. B 39. E
由上文“Have yu ever bent yur head dwn t lk at a screen until yur neck muscles hurt? If s, yu’ve experienced tech neck.”(你有没有曾经低头看屏幕,直到颈部疼痛?如果有,那你可能得了技术脖。)Screen对应phnes, cmputers and ther technlgy,及下文“It’s a cmmn prblem, and it’s n the rise.”
由上文“But nw peple spend significant amunts f time lking dwn at their phnes….”(但现在人们花大量的时间低头看手机….)
由上文“take breaks.”休息一下及下文“If yu’ve been sitting, stand up and walk arund…”(如果你一直坐着,就站起来走动一下….)
    由下文“If yu’re aware f the prblem, yu can take measures t avid it.” 句中的avid(避免)呼应选项中的“dn’t have t be”,故选择E项。
    Discvered by Amateurs
Sme astrnmers spend their entire careers lking fr new discveries in space, but a 10-year-ld Canadian girl fund ne n her first try.
Thrughut histry imprtant discveries in astrnmy have been made by amateurs.
    40. Hw did Kathryn Gray discver the supernva?
    43. Which f the amateur astrnmers mentined in the passage has impressed yu mst? Why? (abut 40 wrds)
40. Kathryn Gray discvered the supernva when she was cmparing recent pictures f uter space t thse taken years earlier.
    41. Clyde Tmbaugh impressed Dr. V. M. Slipher with his pictures f the surfaces f Mars and Jupiter, s he was ffered a jb at the Lwell Observatry.
    42. The fur amateur astrnmers were all interested in astrnmy and did sme research, s they finally made discveries f their wn.
Accrding t the passage, nt every amateur astrnmer made a discvery althugh they were all astrnmy hbbyists.
    43. (1) Kathryn Gray, the yungest persn t discver a supernva, has impressed me mst. Althugh she was yung, she had her wn hbby and devted her time t it. It’s the key t her success. That’s why she has impressed me mst.
    (2) Jhn Dbsn has impressed me mst. He didn’t make a discvery, but he prvided the technlgy f making affrdable tls, enabling mre peple t take up astrnmy as a hbby. He is mre influential in a sense. S he has impressed me mst.
根据第一段第二句“In January, 2011, Kathryn Gray, wh ften studied stars, was lking at recent pictures f uter space and cmparing them t pictures taken years earlier. ”(2011年1月,经常研究恒星的凯瑟琳·格雷正在观察外太空最近的照片,并将它们与多年前拍摄的照片进行比较。)凯瑟琳·格雷是在比较外太空最近的照片和多年前拍摄的照片时发现的超新星。故答案为“Kathryn Gray discvered the supernva when she was cmparing recent pictures f uter space t thse taken years earlier.”。
根据第三段第三句和第四句“He used t draw detailed pictures f the surfaces f Mars and Jupiter. He sent the pictures t Dr. V. M. Slipher at the Lwell Observatry, wh was s impressed and ffered him a jb n his team. ”(他曾经画过火星和木星表面的细节图。他把照片发给了洛厄尔天文台的V.M.斯莱弗博士,后者对他印象深刻,并邀请他在自己的团队中工作。)可知,克莱德·汤博画的火星和木星表面的图片给V. M.斯莱弗博士留下了深刻的印象,因此他得到了洛厄尔天文台的一份工作。故答案为“Clyde Tmbaugh impressed Dr. V. M. Slipher with his pictures f the surfaces f Mars and Jupiter, s he was ffered a jb at the Lwell Observatry.”。
根据最后一段前两句“Jhn Dbsn is anther influential amateur astrnmer because he enabled s many thers t take up astrnmy as a hbby. In 1956, after cnstant attempts, he built a pwerful telescpe ut f lw-cst materials, such as paper tubes used in cnstructin.”(约翰·多布森是另一位有影响力的业余天文学家,因为他使许多人能够把天文学作为一种爱好。 故答案为在“s they finally made discveries f their wn”处画下划线,原因是“Accrding t the passage, nt every amateur astrnmer made a discvery althugh they were all astrnmy hbbyists.”。
所以参考答案为“(1) Kathryn Gray, the yungest persn t discver a supernva, has impressed me mst. Althugh she was yung, she had her wn hbby and devted her time t it. It’s the key t her success. That’s why she has impressed me mst.”或“(2) Jhn Dbsn has impressed me mst. He didn’t make a discvery, but he prvided the technlgy f making affrdable tls, enabling mre peple t take up astrnmy as a hbby. He is mre influential in a sense. S he has impressed me mst.”。
