A prmtin ffering 98 yuan dmestic plane tickets is being advertised by Chinese nline travel platfrm LY. COM. While such a lw price sunds amazing, there is just ne catch: The purchase is nt tld where the flight is heading, nr when it will take ff.
The prmtin has becme a trending tpic n Chinese scial media, as sme peple have been attempting t bk them ahead f the upcming summer hliday. Labeled as a “destinatin blind bx” n the site, tickets are purchased thrugh a rather simple bking prcedure, in which passengers prvide their travel infrmatin, select a departure airprt and then pay their 98 yuan. If the randmly chsen date and destinatin are unsuitable, users may ask fr a refund, but nce they “lck in” their tickets, there is n ging back.
The “destinatin blind bx” is nw a ht tpic n China’s nline platfrms. “I believe yung peple are a big target demgraphic (目标群体) fr this prmtin, because they nt nly enjy the thrill f the unknwn, but als like t shw ff their lives thrugh these types f cmmercial activities. Many peple nt nly shared the screenshts f tickets they drew, but als came up with a tutrial t teach the bking prcedure under the free canceling plicy. Hwever, sme thers claimed it is t rare t draw a ticket that is ideal. “If it wants t be a prfitable activity, the release f the tickets must have been planned ahead and is nt as randm as it seems. It will nt have ppular airlines. The marketing campaign may als be aimed at the fast sale f sme tickets frm less ppular airlines that were riginally nt that expensive. If they sell a large quantity f tickets, the cmpany may still earn a prfit even thugh the price is 98 yuan,” an expert in turism suggested.

There has, in recent years, been an utpuring f infrmatin abut the impact f buildings n the natural envirnment. Infrmatin which explains and prmtes green and sustainable cnstructin design, strives t cnvince thers f its efficacy (功效) and warns f the dangers f ignring the issue. Seldm d these dcuments ffer any advice t practitiners, such as thse designing mechanical and electrical systems fr a building, n hw t use this knwledge n a practical level.
Althugh there are a gd many advcates f “green” cnstructin in the architectural industry, able t list enugh reasns why buildings shuld be designed in a sustainable way, nt t mentin plenty f architectural firms with experience in green design, this is nt enugh t make green cnstructin cme int being. The driving frce behind whether a building is cnstructed with minimal envirnmental impact lies with the wner f the building; that is, the persn financing the prject. If the wner cnsiders green design unimprtant, r f secndary imprtance, then mre than likely, it will nt be factred int the design.
The cmmissining (委任) prcess plays a key rle in ensuring the wner gets the building he wants, in terms f design, csts and risk. At the predesign stage, the wner’s bjectives and expectatins are discussed and dcumented. This gives a design team a slid fundatin n which they can build their ideas. Owners wh skip the cmmissining prcess, r fail t take “green” issues int accunt when ding s, ften cme a crpper nce their building is up and running. Materials and equipment are installed as planned, and, at first glance, appear t fulfil their purpse adequately. Hwever, in time, the wner realizes that peratinal and maintenance csts are higher than necessary, and that the ccupants are dissatisfied with the results. These factrs in turn lead t higher wnership csts as well as increased envirnmental impact.
In sme cases, an wner may be aware f the latest trends in sustainable building design. Hwever, firms shuld nt take it as read that the client already has an idea f hw green he intends the structure t be. Indeed, this initial interactin between wner and firm is the ideal time fr a designer t utline and prmte the ways that green design can meet the client’s bjectives, thus turning a prject riginally nt destined fr green design int a ptential candidate.
Typically, when cnsidering whether r nt t adpt a green apprach, an wner will ask abut additinal csts r return fr investment. In a typical prject, landscape architects, mechanical and electrical engineers d nt becme invlved until a much later stage. Hwever, in green design, they must be invlved frm the utset, since green design demands interactin between these disciplines. This increased cperatin clearly requires additinal cst. Hwever, there may be financial advantage fr the client in chsing a greener design. There are examples f green designs which have demnstrated lwer csts fr lng-term peratin, wnership and even cnstructin.
    8. What is the main reasn fr the lack f green buildings being designed accrding t the passage?
    A. Few firms have enugh experience in designing and cnstructing green buildings.
    B. Cnstructin cmpanies are unaware f the benefits f sustainable designs.
    C. Firms d nt get t decide whether a building is t be cnstructed sustainably.
    D. Firms tend t cnvince clients that ther factrs are mre imprtant than sustainability.
    9. The phrase “cme a crpper” prbably means ________.
    A. experience misfrtuneB. change ne’s mind
    C. ntice the benefitsD. make a start
    10. Which f the fllwing can be inferred frm the passage?
    A. Mst clients have a clear idea f whether they want a green building at the beginning.
    B. Green buildings are mst likely t cst mre mney than cnventinal buildings.
    C. The cmmissining prcess ffers a gd pprtunity t bring up the subject f green design.
    D. Firms shuld avid wrking with clients wh reject green designs in their buildings.
    11. The writer’s main purpse is t ________.
    A. explain the imprtance f cmmunicatin when a building is cmmissined
    B. emphasize the imprtance f green building design in prtecting the envirnment
    C. explain t building wners why ignring green issues is cstly and dangerus
    D. infrm prfessinals hw they can influence clients t chse greener designs

America was where all my mther’s hpes lay. My mther believed ne culd be anything he wanted t be in America. “Yu can be a prdigy (神童), t,” my mther tld me when I was nine. “Yu can be best at anything.” We didn’t immediately pick the right kind f prdigy. In all f my imaginings, I was filled with a sense that I wuld sn becme perfect. My mther and father wuld adre me. I wuld be beynd reprach (责备). I wuld never be annyed by anything. The tests gt harder — multiplying numbers in my head, finding the queen f hearts in a deck f cards, trying t stand n my head withut using my hands, predicting the daily temperatures in Ls Angeles, New Yrk, and Lndn.
And after seeing my mther’s disappinted face nce again, smething inside f me began t die. I hated the tests, the raised hpes and failed expectatins. Befre ging t bed that night, I lked in the mirrr and when I saw nly my face staring back — and that it wuld always be this rdinary face — I began t cry. Such a sad, ugly girl! I made high-pitched (尖锐的) nises like a crazed animal, trying t scratch ut the face in the mirrr.
And then I saw what seemed t be the prdigy side f me — because I had never seen that face befre. I lked at my reflectin, blinking s I culd see mre clearly. The girl staring back at me was angry, pwerful. This girl and I were the same. I had new thughts, willful thughts, r rather thughts filled with lts f wn’ts. I wn’t let her change me, I prmised myself. I wn’t be what I’m nt.
    12. Why did the mther and the girl watch Shirley Temple’s ld mvies n TV?
