In this creative art class, students will learn the rich histry f embridery and hw t use it in unexpected and cntemprary ways.
What t Expect
A variety f stitches（针法）and techniques will be taught? with an emphasis n embridery as a drawing medium. Textile(纺织的) arts frm the museum's cllectin will be used fr inspiratin f students’ wn artwrks.

POTATO CHIPS
One f the wrld’s favrite snacks is the result f a cmplaint. In 1853, a man was eating dinner at Mn’s Lake Huse in Saratga Springs, New Yrk. He rdered fried ptates, a ppular side dish. Tfu, r bean curd, is made by curdling (使凝结) fresh sya milk, pressing it int a slid blck, and then cling it. One day, an emplyee, Edward Wilsn, watched wrkers puring crnmeal (谷粉) int the flaking machine, wetting it t keep it frm clgging (堵塞). Distinguished Baltimre artist Jhn D. Fergusn died n Sept. 16. The Catnsville resident was 81.
“His artist eye was in everything he did. His life was art and his family,” said Jennifer C. Jacksn, wh was Mr. Fergusn’s friend fr nearly three decades. “He was a lvable man wh was always willing t talk abut any tpic he was interested in. Mr. Fergusn earned a bachelr's degree in 1961 at Cllege f the Hly Crss, where he develped an interest in painting.He served in the Army fr tw years until being discharged in 1963, and after studying briefly at the Bstn Museum Schl, he registered at the Art Institute f Chicag, where he studied until 1966. In 1966 he entered the University f Illinis at Chicag, where he btained bachelr's degree in 1966 in fine develped his interest and skills as a sculptr after mving t Baltimre t d further studies at the Maryland Institute Cllege f Art’s Rinehart Schl f Sculpture, frm which he graduated in 1971 with a master's degree in fine arts.
“Over the years my wrk has mved gradually in the directin f elegance and simplicity,” Mr. Fergusn wrte in his artist statement.“Heavy, bulbus（鳞荟状的）frms have been replaced by dancing, winglike frms. The welding（焊接）prcess and the quality f the materials are interrelated and affect the final sculptures. Mst f the sculptures that are pictured in my wrks are made frm steel, silicn brnze and COR-TEN steel and shaped t create these beautiful and unique pieces f art. As yu can see, my sculptures range in size anywhere frm 12 inches t 30 feet r larger.”

Embridery（刺绣）:Drawing with Thread
In this creative art class, students will learn the rich histry f embridery and hw t use it in unexpected and cntemprary ways.
What t Expect
A variety f stitches（针法）and techniques will be taught? with an emphasis n embridery as a drawing medium. Textile(纺织的) arts frm the museum's cllectin will be used fr inspiratin f students’ wn artwrks.

This class meets every Wednesday frm February 1 t February 22 at 10 am—12 pm.

POTATO CHIPS

One day, an emplyee, Edward Wilsn, watched wrkers puring crnmeal (谷粉) int the flaking machine, wetting it t keep it frm clgging (堵塞). Distinguished Baltimre artist Jhn D. Fergusn died n Sept. 16. The Catnsville resident was 81.
“His artist eye was in everything he did. His life was art and his family,” said Jennifer C. Jacksn, wh was Mr. Fergusn’s friend fr nearly three decades. “He was a lvable man wh was always willing t talk abut any tpic he was interested in. Mr. Fergusn earned a bachelr's degree in 1961 at Cllege f the Hly Crss, where he develped an interest in painting.He served in the Army fr tw years until being discharged in 1963, and after studying briefly at the Bstn Museum Schl, he registered at the Art Institute f Chicag, where he studied until 1966. In 1966 he entered the University f Illinis at Chicag, where he btained bachelr's degree in 1966 in fine develped his interest and skills as a sculptr after mving t Baltimre t d further studies at the Maryland Institute Cllege f Art’s Rinehart Schl f Sculpture, frm which he graduated in 1971 with a master's degree in fine arts.
“Over the years my wrk has mved gradually in the directin f elegance and simplicity,” Mr. Fergusn wrte in his artist statement.“Heavy, bulbus（鳞荟状的）frms have been replaced by dancing, winglike frms. The welding（焊接）prcess and the quality f the materials are interrelated and affect the final sculptures. Mst f the sculptures that are pictured in my wrks are made frm steel, silicn brnze and COR-TEN steel and shaped t create these beautiful and unique pieces f art. As yu can see, my sculptures range in size anywhere frm 12 inches t 30 feet r larger.”
